Since I'm T1 with Dx'ed insulin resistance, and so is my husband, I'll give you a run down of both our diagnoses.

For me, I was diagnosed with it shortly after being diagnosed with diabetes (2 months later). The doctor says his factors in diagnosing it were a high TDD (more than 1 unit per kilo of body weight) while my blood sugar was still averaging 180, and my weight - my BMI was 25.3 at time of diagnosis, just 0.4 enough to class me as overweight.

For my husband, he had T1 for 13 years before showing signs of insulin resistance. He suddenly gained weight (around 20lb) and his TDD went from around 60U a day, which was like 0.8U per kg to over 140U in a day, in a few months, and his blood sugar was still high.
Dx'ed March 2012. Levemir, Novorapid, Metformin.

There are many T1D's diagnosed with IR. Mine was dx in 1998, after I had gained some weight. I have been taking T2 meds for 13 years now. I have lost the weight, but i still have the IR. I have cut my Metformin dosages in half, which requires me to lower my carb intake so I do not need so much extra insulin. the more insulin I use, the more weight I gain. I was using a TDD of 30 units per day while taking 2000 mg of Met. Now my TDD is 34 with 1000 mg of Met. I would like to completely eliminate my use of Met, but I doubt that will be possible.

You can find links about T1D's with IR and using T2 meds on Google. I have seen posts on this here on DF. I've also seen them on other D sites, and on Facebook.

I would say the chances are about the same as a random person. In the US I believe it's about one third of all people. I imagine that changes based on your lifestyle, but there's no reason why the insulin being exogenous or endogenous would make a difference.
