I'm falling apart!

I need to vent as I feel I have been deteriating (sp) these past few months.

I have been battling an infection for over 2 years now and I finally have a diagnoses. After the birth of my daughter in 9/03 I haven't healed properly. I noticed a small opening on my incision line that I brought to my Dr's attention. I was told I would be fine and it would heal. I let things go for almost a year but then I couldn't take the pain anymore. I brought the issue to my family Dr and he threw creams and antibiotics at me. It didn't work so he threw more antibiotics at me. It didn't get better again! So since then I have been on antibiotics for well over 6-7 months and I have also have had 4 CT scans done. Well I finally confided in the OB DR at my hospital and he did a test and it confirmed that I have a hospital-acquired strain of MRSA. The infection is resistant to antibiotics and will require a lengthy hospital stay if what were trying doesn't work.

Now to add to things, my eye has been giving me trouble to a point I have to squint even though I'm wearing my glasses or contacts. This is the same eye my opthamologist said more likely then not I will get glaucoma in. I don't know what caused the pressure to build up but it is either from the diabetes or it is from a car accident I was in 2000. I had a piece of metal embedded in my eye. Sometimes when you get a penetrating eye injury you can develop glaucoma later.

Another frightening thing happened this morning when I woke up at 3:30 am to a numb left hand. It felt as if I had slept on it and had the feeling of needles. I waited up and hung my hand down to get the blood going. Apparently, I fell asleep and when I woke back up I still had the pain. I slowly gained feeling back one finger at a time but my pinky is still numb. I made an appointment with my lousy Dr tomorrow.

I feel awful and I just keep asking myself if I feel this way now how am I going to feel 10 years from now.

This is my first depressing day of the year now only 100 more to go.

Seems to me that having a 2 year-old would be enough, by itself, to make anyone feel as if they are deteriorating. Then throw Diabetes on top of it and WHOOF. That's more than I could handle.

Proves, once again, that medicine is an art as much as it's a science.

1st question I'd ask is have you have eyes checked lately? Sounds as if you're of an age where there can be rapid changes to vision. (wife worked at eye Dr. for a number of years)

Happens to me once in a while, although I'm considerably older than you, I just don't worry about it if it goes away after several days.

I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time of it lately. I can't relate to some degree, though the pain is not mine, I am just on the sidelines trying to help.

Your hand sounds like mine. I hae carpal tunnel. I sometimes wake up several times a night to releve the pain. Just a suggestion.

Sandi,
Sorry to hear of al that you are going through right now. First thing that comes to mind is, How have your BS been?
Seems like you are having normal life troubles, and having Diabetes just takes twice the effort, unfortunately. Go AHEAD AND SCREAM AT US, if you have to, We are here to hear you out. Is there any way you are able to see other doctors?

Geez Sandi, you had the same infection for over 2 yrs.? Plus being on antibiotics for so long? Unbelieveable.

I'm sorry that you have been going through so much.

Well, i'm sure you could use some rest(I know, who can sleep in the hospital?)but I do hope whatever you are trying will work well for you. Good Wishes.

I'm so sorry that life is a overbearing right now. Anyone would need to vent with all that going on. It is good that you finally got to the point where you know what the infection is. Now you can do something about it. Even if you have to

to get there. My prayers are that the healing will take place outside of the hospital.

My eyes have been going through the blurs lately, too. I know it can be the sugars or the age thing. We might think of the reason, but it doesn't mean we have to like it. :dito: I agree with a previous post---maybe a trip to the eye doctor will solve that one. I know--I don't want to make one more appointment either.

Another :dito: It very well could be a carpal tunnel thing showing up in your hands. Or a fluke that will not happen again.

It's just plain tough feeling rough and having good reason to.

But let's not add 10 years to your life yet. You'll get it all together because you are Sandi.

I would wait until it happens, if it happens again, before I panic too much. Making the appointment with the doctor was good. Even if it's nothing at least you'll know.

SO sorry to hear you are going through this... Some days can be really rough, huh? I think we've all been there in one way or another. I know, I have. There are days where I feel like I'm falling apart, not only physically, but mentally too...it can be very frustrating

Try to hang in there...I know it doesn't seem like it now, but things will get better. You have all of us here behind you and supporting you whenever you need.

Sandi,

Let's look at just 2 things that struck me:

1. You have had an infection for TWO YEARS.

2. You have been on various anti-biotics for a loooooong time.

Those two things alone in ANYONE can and would cause unpredictable side-effects, symptoms, and reactions.

Your body ( an amazing machine,) has done battle every day for two-years with an infection and kept it at bay.

You have been given anti-biotics for a long period of time that were of no use and your body could not use.

Type "anti-biotic side effects" into Google and take a look at all the things that come up.

If I decided to take 8 aspirin (that I didn't need) a day for two-years, it would definitely create symptoms and make me sick.

Now that you have a diagnosis, and are on the proper treatment -- watch how well your body adjusts and takes care of business.

Keep your BG levels good and hang in there.

Even when Doctors aren't smart, your body is.
