Insulin timing

I bring this up because I found a lot of positive results after I started timing my insulin. Sometimes this is impossible if you're eating out or at a function, but if you're at home and can control your eating time, it makes a big difference in my experience.

Before I'd eat when I took Humulin R. then I was reading Dr. Bernstein's book and he give instructions on how to determine the acting time for your insulin, and so I started waiting a while before taking it.

So for example, I might plan to eat a sandwhich, with 30g of carb, meaning a dose of 2 units of R. I use the timer on my watch to beep when I should eat, and take the dose x minutes beforehand. Sometimes I'll even write down what I'mgoing to eat and my dosage so that if I were to forget, I can check my notes. I haven't forgotten, but it's sort of a worry.

I'm intentionally not listing the time I wait because it might be different for someone here.

If I'm going out then I'll probably take fast-acting humalog, with which I'll eat right away. But I actually prefer R insulin because it has a longer tail, so doesn't have the "kick" that humalog has if you eat carbs that are too slow with it.

Anyway, this stopped my BG from going as high after the meal. I don't think everyone does this, so I mention the practice.
