Saw the nurse today :)

Well, last week I got fed up of waiting for an appointment so started ringing the clinic and pestering them! A nice specialist nurse phoned me back and i went to see her today.

She's changed me onto 'Lantus', because taking 'Humalin I' meant I had no background insulin in the day. Sounds like a good plan to me- and means I've now joined the carb counting club! She's put me on 1 unit (of Humalog) for every 10g of carbs and we'll go from there. As some of you know my bs have been up and down so the first aim is to level them out, and then try to decrease them.

Must admit its a bit scary changing insulin after so long on Humalin I, but it sounds as if it works for the majority out there.

Oh, and I'm not allowed to inject in my tummy anymore... Nooooooooooo Apparently I've deadened the area and am at risk of having to have surgery if I keep injecting there. MUST....BREAK....MY....HABBITS.....

I know the feeling! I went through some serious problems when I got on the pump and only used Novolog, after being used to Humulin N & R.. blah!!!
Yes now you must test a lot to see how you will need to adjust your ratio (units.carbs) I have the same ratio like you and I do at times adjust it depending on my BS.
