emotions

yesterday i was sitting at the computer and i noticed myself feeling very depressed, and i started crying in the middle of no where... i checked my sugars and i was 16.8, were my emotions messed up because my bs was high? or did my bs go up because my emotions were messed up?

Stress + high blood sugar + dont mix. Feeling depressed and diabetes are no strangers, but having your sugar so high doesnt help. Do you have any idea why your BS is running so high?

When my blood sugars go high, I do get emotional. But I think it's one of those circles. When I get emotional I feel stressed, which makes my bs high. When my bs is high, I get emotional. The thing that can both bring down bs and help with stress is exercise. Maybe the cure is a good walk.

It takes a while, especially initially, to "smooth things out". Imagine a pendulum or rubber band...It starts to swing or vibrate, and until some time passes the initial swings are bigger and have the most energy. Your sugars are probably bouncing around as you try and gain control...It can take a while, esp. since everyone is different, and even the same person can go through phases.

I applaud you for being aware enough to check your sugars.

And hey, think of blood sugar kinda like alcohol--the correlation isn't 100% correct, but it helps me to think in those terms...If you had a LOT of alcohol in your blood, it can make you lethargic, drunken, moody, emotional...same with sugar.

I think it's a proven fact that just having diabetes gives us a higher chance of depression due to the disease effecting the level of serontonin in the brain. This, coupled with the ups and downs we all go through with sugar control, eating, etc. is enough to make anyone batty.

I know I have my momemts sometimes when I feel depressed and it seems to come out of the blue.........
