| | Who else? I have always been wondering. I am terribly shy of injecting or even testing in front of people. I can test in front of my Dad or GF, but I cannot get the courage to inject in front of them. As for testing, I go to public toilets when I am around out of the house. |

| | | I dislike testing in front of others, spilling bodily fluid in front of others is just wrong, no matter how little or how sanitary. But injected I could do, as long as the "audience" has no issue with it. |

| | | I was shy of testing and injecting for the first year or 2 after being diagnosed just because I was getting used to it myself and I wasn't sure what people would think. But now, I am just fine with it. I test in front of people, although when around strangers I ask if they mind, and they never had. And, I am on the pump now, so the injections are not any worry anymore. But, when I was on MDI, I could inject in front of anyone but my sister who was terribly scared of needles.

| | I test and inject in public and but since I have the InDuo, it's not really an issue. My wife has noted that people either ignore what I'm doing or, Mostly, don't even notice. Accu-check Compact

| | | My son is amazing -- never been shy at all. About a week and a half after diagnosis, he tested himself in the lobby of the Stratford theatre (fancy Shakespeare theatre) and did his injection at a restaurant. His fourth-ever set change with his pump he did at a pool party in front of his entire class, with three grade-8 girls sitting around him watching.
I'm really glad to see that -- I hope it will help him take care of himself through those tough teen years if he doesn't feel he has to leave whatever is going on just to do his business. And his friends are all totally matter-of-fact about it, because they were just casually included from Day One. |

| | | I have no problem testing with folks around, in fact it normally makes a conversation piece and gives an opportunity to dispel some of the mhyths they hold about the big D.

| | | I don't like injecting in public simply because you just end up having to conduct an interview every sodding time. And of course, it's always the exact same interview, even if it's someone who's seen you inject before. On one of the other threads I actually made up an idea for a card so I could just hand it out each time I jab and thus save me some time.
On the other hand, I'm not about to go hide in a bathroom to do it either. |

| | | Yeah, that's really annoying. It's so hard to answer questions when you're gripping that invisible tourniquet with your teeth, isn't it?

| | | I also have no problem with testing myself in public, or when I was on MDI giving myself a shot in public. I fill my pump when needed and once had to change my set out at dinner becuase of an alarm I kept getting. If someone does not like it I guess they should not be looking at me. However my wife hates when I do it in public, but O well

| | | I've overcome any inhibitions about testing in front of strangers. I feel a little shy about it for some unknown reason, but it's all psychological. I just remind myself that I'm doing what I have to do to survive and if anyone gets offended, it's just too bad.
When I was on MDI, I usually kept my insulin in the car in a cooler or lunch pack, so I'd just go out to the car and inject. I still don't feel comfortable taking injections in front of people, but then again I don't feel comfortable when mothers breast feed in public (please don't flame me). |

| | | I've always been shy about testing and injecting in public. About 6 months ago, I started testing in front of people. I still like to inject in private though - I don't even like to do it in front of family...not so much because I'm embarrassed, but I get distracted and then get scared I took too much insulin because I wasn't paying attention.
