Lantus Pen Malfunction?

When I inject myself with my Lantus pen, I inject 20 units. While injecting, you can hear small clicks comming from the pen. I usually hear 10 of them, guessing 1 click per 2 units, but sometimes i hear 20 clicks (there slow enough to count), and i get worried that the pen might of malfunctioned on me and doubled up on my 20 units of insulin, giving me 40 units. Any one have any ideas?

I am using the Lantus OptiClik pen and haven't had any concerns with it. I actually don't pay very close attention to how many clicks I hear, though. If you are in doubt, check the lot number of the pen and contact Aventis to discuss, as I know that they recalled some lots of the pen that I use.

Do you use the OptiClick Pen or the disposible?

I personally didnt get on with the opticlick and found out that it didnt work properly ans wasnt giving me enough insulin.
Have been using the disposible for nearly a year now and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

If you're looking for a new Lantus pen, Lantus carts also fit the Autopen, which is considerably better than both the OptiSet and Opticlick. On the other hand, you might want to change to Levemir (it's basically the same stuff) and get yourself a nice Novopen.

They made some changes to the Lantus pen when they Premiered here in the U.S.

I don't know if they actually improved it or not, though. You have to use the BD needles with it to make sure it doesn't leak.

I always count the clicks when I dial up the amount I use. They almost always add up, unless I spin the dial/knob too fast---sometimes then I'm not sure I heard the correct # of clicks.
