Do I have diabetes?

Hi all,

For more than 2 weeks I have a very dry mouth and I urinate very often. I don't feel thirsty though, my mouth is just dry and the tongue is white. I went to see a doctor today, and he said it could be diabetes. He did a urine test and there was no suger in the urine. He took my blood for testing, and I'll have to wait for one week for results.

Last year I was tested for blood glucose, and it was normal. Can diabetes develop in one year? The fact that there was no suger in urine, does it rule out anything?

Thanks

Yes, you can develop diabetes in a year. If you didn't have sugar in your urine, that means your blood sugar wasn't super high, at least not for awhile, but you could still definitely have diabetes.

Yes, it can come on slowly or swiftly. It just depends on your body and what is happeneing inside the pancreas.

Odd that they'd make you wait for a week, though, unless they did a ful chem panel, or at least enough to get your

Last year result was 4.7, which is perfect right? I do not feel thirsty at all though, and I've read here that people with diabetes drink lots of water

yes, that is indeed one of the symptoms, but like any other thing having to do with the human body, we're all different.

You might not have all the classic symptoms and still have the beginnning stages of diabetes-------hope your blood test comes back negative.

Some are get very discrete symtoms over a long time, others can get really sick in just a few days... i had symtoms for a couple of weeks before diagnose. everyone is different.

really hope your bloodtests comes back as "not diabetes" but if you do have D, it's not as bad as one often hear i've hardly noticed any changes in my life since diagnose

you can expect to get very thirsty because of the sugar itself (just like eating very salty things). If you're diabetic, you can expect to get extremely thirsty, run to the bathroom a lot more and feel completely ****

Are you taking the honey to see if you go to the bathroom alot and become thirsty? You cannot diagnose diabetes like that. If you had a blood glucose monitor it might be helpful but taking anyone's reading right after consuming sugar will get a slightly higher reading.

They do sell Ketostix that also show glucose readings. They are only about 10-15$ for a bottle of 50 I think. Good time to check is about 2 hours after a meal. If your sugar is over 200, that is elevated. Another time to check is when you first wake up in the morning, which is called your fasting glucose. Ideally, a non-diabetic is under 100 upon waking I believe.

If you have a white coating on your tongue it sounds as if you have thrush which would make your mouth feel dry.
If you had diabetes then you would pee for what ever country you are in and drink gallons/ltrs of water to make up for the fluid lose.
Sounds to me as if you have prob got a case of thrush going through your body hence the peeing and white tongue. If that's the case though eating sugar will make it worse. But hey I'm no medic.

I thought I had thrush right before I was diagnosed. I also had sore palms, along with a whole gammit of other strange problems that I could not explain.

Last night i went to a friend, his wife is diabetic, so they have that tool at home. My blood sugar level was 5.0, and it was 3 hours after I ate (I ate honey too). He said that 5.0 is normal, but I'll still wait for the results from the lab.
What do you think now?
