Exclamation Want a baby but my a1c is to high

I went to a specialist to see why I was having a hard time having a baby and they check my blood sugar my a1c was at a ten point something I know I need to get it down what is the fastest way to get it down Im 37 so I don't have that much time before my clock stops ticking. I am working out 30 minutes on the treadmill at a speed 3.5 and lifting weights and have gone on a 1500 calorie diet. I have an appointment Monday with a doctor. I was taking Metformi but it causes me to have the runs and I can't always go to the bathroom.

Have you looked into Metformin ER. Its an Extended release that MAY ease the tummy issues. Are you testing often? How many carbs are you eating per day? Low cal is nice for maintaing weight or even loosing it, but if you are eating carb laden foods then it wont do alot to help your BG.

Have you had a recent C-peptide to see how much insulin you are producing?
You may need to go on insulin to help lower you BG levels. Insulin is NOT a failing, it is an alternative form of treatment.

Switch to a low carb food plan. Read up on it.

i believe that if you are wanting to get pregnant you shouldn't be taking the met, i would check with your doc, if you are wanting to get pregnant i would suggest getting on insulin

but check with a doc who specializes in diabetes,

Insulin, low-mid carb, carb counting, test your BG as often as possible and routinely. By the sound of it, you may need a differently educated Dr. or specialist... This should all be in your plan with your Dr.

ps.. I'm ttc too Good Luck!

--oh and almost forgot.. take a prenatal vitamin if you aren't already. It was suggested to me to take 5x as much folic acid (5mg) as a person without Diabetes This may also be a good idea, due to your age...

A lot of women who have PCOS take metformin to achieve pregnancy, though in your case you should take it along with eating low carb in order to lower your A1c.

Good luck to you!

I had the same type problem with metformin. When I was on 500 mg 2x a day it lasted about 3 weeks. Recently the doctor put me on Januvia, no side effects for me. I'm not sure how it would work with trying to have a baby though.
