I found out I was type 2 diabetic in Dec 2008 after a routine visit with my general practitioner. No diet was given, I was told to come back in 6 months and they will test again to see what the sugar does. In Feb 2009 I found out I was pregnant. I told my OB about the type 2 diabetes and he too said they would monitor it and see what it does. The OB has tested my sugar several times. Sometimes it is a little high and sometimes it is normal. So he has been bouncing me from normal to high risk pregnancy this whole time. I am now 33 weeks pregnant and the OB is just now becoming concerned about my sugar levels. He sent me to a high risk specialist who has put me on a strict diet which leaves me stressed and hungry all the time. They didn't even test my sugar when i went for the appt. I have a needle phobia and i am so scared to eat anything for fear that It will make my sugar levels too high when I have to report to the specialist and they will put me on insulin injections. They currently have me testing in the morning and after every meal. The diet is confusing. I have been eating the foods on it and yet my sugar is still above what they want it to be unless i eat next to nothing at all. I don't trust my glucose meter. It seems to read 30 points or so above what my OB's office meter reads. I asked the high risk specialist about that and they told me that the OB's office probably doesn't have their meter coded right. She said to go by what MY meter reads. But my meter was giving me high results when my OB's meter gave me normal results. I am so scared and confused right now. I don't understand why they waited this long to become concerned about my blood sugar and why they are just now wanting to treat my condition even though the baby is doing fine and I am this close to delivery. I am constantly stressed because being hungry even after meals is making me feel sick to my stomach and I am very cranky and have zero energy. I don't see how the baby can be getting enough food if even I am not. Thank you to whoever reads this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Cali and welcome to DF! What type of diet do they have you on??? Are you cutting back on carbs???

The insulin needles are even smaller than the needles in your lancing device. And they hurt way less.
