Unhappy It's HERE!

I knew it was coming I finally have nueropathy. My brother has had it for awhile. I could feel it starting. I havent even been back to tell my Doc yet. I know there is meds you can take. I am alittle surprised since my ac1 has been good the last year and my BS counts are pretty good. I am on oral meds. I thought you only got it if you didn't keep good control. My brother is only 4 years older than me and didn't watch his for a long time and he is on insulin now, He falls because his legs are weak. I almost want to give up, but I am usually a fighter so I guess I can't.All I know is DIABETES SUCKS!!!!!

Hi Gabby:
Could you describe some of the symptoms you've been having?

Also, since you've not been to the doctor, could this be something other than neuropathy, maybe a side effect of another medication or something?

I would make an appt. with the doctor to r/o some other cause of whatever symptoms you're having. Then, if it is beginning neuropathy, hopefully they can get you started on some medications that will reverse or at least keep it from progressing as fast.

Keep us posted.

Linda

Like Linda says, it could be something else... Worth a trip to the doctor.

Also, what do you consider to be 'good control'?

Exactly, don't panic yet. The human body is a weird and mysterious thing, and unless you're a GP, PCP, Endo or other specialist, you might have diagnosed youreslf wrong.

My BS are are almost always under 130 and mostly 100 to 120.Once in awhile 139 in the morning if I don't eat a protein before going to bed.I have not had any new meds. I have had numbness for a long time in my toe and sometimes my hands. I now get the pins and and needle feeling in those area also some pain with it. I have talked to my brother who is treated for nueropathy for a few years too. I did make a Dr. appt. for next week today.I do hope I am wrong but don't know what else it would be.

Could be blood flow issues, restless leg syndrome(which does Really exist), damage from previous injuries............ I could go on but the list is very long.

I had a problem with the index finger on my left hand going numb and tingly (about a year prior to my diagnosis with diabetes). Come to find out, it was a herniated disc in my neck (C5-6). I didn't have to have surgery, just took a lot of anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants until things calmed down. Still troubles me on occasion, but point is neck/back can cause problems elsewhere.
