| | | Blue Funk Day...why? I'm Type 2. For some reason, I'm having one of those days...I am in such a "blue funk" I just can't seem to cheer up. The sun is shinning. It's been cold and rainy here for the past 2 weeks and you would think that now the sun is out I would be cheerful. But NOOOO, I'm in a blue funk!! Does anyone else have days like this? I dreamed all night last night and the two nights before. I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough restful sleep.
I work at home and enjoy it greatly, but every now and then I just get totally wigged out. What's up with that? I feel like I can't get my house under control even though I'm told everything is in it's place. I just feel like there is something more I need to do to make it perfect but just can't quite put my finger on it. Am I just anal retentive or what?
I've had some coffee this morning thinking it will make my brain happy
I'm not saying I'm not happy this morning, but I do feel just a little bit yuck!!! This happens to me from time to time. I take Cymbalta and generally I'm an upbeat person. Why can't I put my finger on what's causing my blues???

| | | Good morning Clee, no you are not alone with those feelings, I think everyone gets them, I do at times..It is almost like I just don't know what to do with myself. As my daughter use to say when she was younger "i'm bored", even tho she had a well-equipted bedroom full of toys, etc lol.
Since you work at home, maybe you have "cabin fever', you just need to get outside do something different.
but do hang in there, the day will pass on to a much different day that could bring surprises lol...
hugs to ya |

You know Mzizgayle...you may be right about the cabin fever. I have gone to workout 3 days this week. I didn't get out yesterday morning so this may be the cause (or catalyst) to my feeling the way I feel today.
You are right, this day will pass and probably feel like it never happened. I think what I will do is get out and go for that much needed walk.
I just don't understand why this happens. My family is so supportive of me and this diabetes thing. I've been eating right (especially since I LOVE veggies) and I keep trying to do all of the right things. But then, it seems that sometimes these things just aren't working. Maybe I just need to eat something that will give me REALLY GREAT JOY and then go back to being good!!! LOL
I just want this feeling to go away. I like being cheerful.
Maybe tonight I'll have a beer in a really nice looking mug!!!

| | | Hey Clee:
Sorry you're having that kind of day.....I get them myself, also for no apparent reason. Break your routine today....take a bubble bath, go and buy some summery nail polish and paint those toenails....pick out a romance novel and have some "couch time." Just do something different and maybe that'll put things "back to normal." Call it a "mental health day" and enjoy it! |

| | Hi Clee, sorry to hear you're having "one of them days" ... funny, you're the only other person I've ever heard call it a "blue funk" besides my Mom! She sometimes calls it a "blue swivit" too! LOL .... Anyway, yea, we all get them from time to time! I had one that lasted for months last summer! I wasn't "depressed" just "blah" for like 3 months! No gumption to do much of anything but sit on the couch and watch old movies! I had NO idea, and still don't, what it was all about! *shrugs* I just blame it on menopause *nods* LOL

| | | Sorry you're having a blue day Clee! Hate days like that. Maybe it's a monthly cycle thing? Coffee sounds like a good place to start though!

| | | Have you actually gone outside into that sunshine? In the last few years, I've noticed that I get a fuzzy-groggy, de-energized feeling through some of January. It seems to be the time of year when I am least likely to get sunshine without deliberately seeking it. I think I probably have a very mild degree of seasonal affective disorder. But on any given day, all I need to do is go out and get some sun in my eyes for a few minutes. Even on cloudy days going outside helps. If it is really cloudy, I will just look up to the sky where the sun is obliterated behind clouds. It is as if I just have to collect up a certain amount of sunlight into my eyes.
On the other hand, if you really are dreaming all night, then you are not likely getting the quality sleep that you need. That can be rough on you.
You seem to be suggesting that there is somethng just under the surface niggling at you, something that is trying to get your attention to be "fixed" in your world where others tell you you really do have everything in order. You know, some people say that in our dreams we deal with certain things that do not get dealt with in our waking hours. So you might be working on an issue even in your sleep. But maybe it feels just below the surface because you do have everything else under control and are maybe ready to deal with the issue in a head-on, direct manner.
I've sometimes had periods where everything is going really well in my life and then an old matter will demand attention in my dreams. No kidding. It is as if, my brain has just held it on the back burner waiting for a time when there is nothing on the front burners! But it is still difficult to know what to do, other than just think it over consciously and tell my husband about it. Or sometimes tell my sister.
Maybe there is some unfairness you experienced that you need to fix or just declare out loud that it happened and was wrong. Maybe you were unfair to someone else and it is bothering you below the surface. Maybe, you are grasping for that one thing that you need to make perfect, but you've avoided it because it is too hard, or your need help and don't want to ask for it, or you can't bear what someone else thinks of you when you try to make that one thing perfect. Geeze, a million things --big and little-- could cause us to feel unsettled, unfinished, anxious, blue, etc.
Actually, I think the coffee is probably a good idea. Fine stimulant, that coffee. You could look into St John's wort, too, if this drags on for quite a few days. And there is always exercise. How about a swig of coffee and a pleasant walk in the sunshine?
Oh yeah, my Mom used to say "blue funk," too. WWII generation. |

Oh yeah, my Mom used to say "blue funk," too. WWII generation. | All of you guys are great!!! And all of you are 100% correct!!! I've got the dark chocolate here at home, I've had the coffee and I'm going outside right now, sit on my patio, and have that chocolate and enjoy the sunshine!!! I need to sit and figure out what it is that is bothering me. I DID get up at 5:00 a.m. this morning to get some things done. I'm an early morning person so I enjoy the mornings. I'm only 51 yrs. old and I don't feel old, just a little bit "off center"
The chocolate should have me doing the happy dance soon. LOL...like I said, I just want to be back to my cheerful self....!!

| | I just treated myself to a power nap. I napped for about 15 minutes!!! IT FELT GREAT!!! I put my work aside, climbed upon the day bed and took a snooz... It's amazing how just the simple things in life will make you feel. I'm feeling better already....

| | I'm sorry that you were feeling down. We all have those types of days- some of us more than others (me ). Yeah, it kind of sucks, but somehow we get through it and survive...
Hang in there
