| | | Confused by Family Doctor My test strips run out in 25 days, no month has only 25 days in it. I told my doctor this and she said to take 1 reading a day. she said that the insurance company will only allow a certain amount.
I called the Insurance company and they told me that I can get up to 200 strips a month and they realize Diabetics need to test at different times, the doc needs to rewrite the prescription. I go back to the doctors on thursday, wish me luck
I know longer take Metformin just Byetta.
My experience with Byetta is that my BS drops really low after I eat (all the time), If I eat too much I feel sick to my stomach. I tried to explain to the doctor that when my BS gets low like that I fall asleep(1 yawn and im out). My kids are now trained to take my reading if I just fall sleep. They know that times that I eat so they know what to look for. I take Byetta 2x a day but she only wants me to take 1 reading.
If I take it 2x a day doesn't it seem right to take 2 readings?
What's the point in taking 1 reading and not know what the **** is going on the rest of the time.
I get alot of false feelings so Im checking my BS maybe 3 extra times a week. The doctor doesn't think I should do this.
My husband doesn't like my doctor, but he cant talk becuz his doc has him testing every other day.

| | | fight for it girl..........my doc only wanted me to test twice a day, it took me 3 trips to the doc's office to get 200 a month.... i finally told her listen its my health, not only am i testing before and after meals, now im starting a vigorous excercise program here at home on my treadmil, i need more than just 2 times a day..... so she wrote a script for 6 x per day plus more if needed that way i would get a hole months supply
and i get mine 90 days worth
you and your husband both need to DEMAND to get a high script for strips, or tell your doc you will find another doc that cares about you
so many people have went through this, including me, so your not alone, keep pushing the docs until they cave or find a new one lol
doctors make me so mad, it doesnt affect them one way or the other how many times you test, it doesnt cost them money, but they claim they get nasty letters from insurance companies.... but the thing is
they doctor is working for you, if you dont like there service's then you need to fire them and find a new one that will listen to you and your concerns

| | | Many of us here, both Type 1 and Type 2, test upwards of six to eight times a day. Ask your doc this: What is the difference between testing once a day, and not testing at all?
Whatever your doc says, then ask if you test, and your blood sugars are 300, should you test again and when? Or, if you test, and your blood sugars are 45, should you eat, and should you test again? And when can you safely drive your car after such an experience?
The gist of the questioning is to try and get your doc to get their head out of the 1950's and realize that testing is the single most important tool you have to treat and control this disease...I often say if you don't know where you are, you cannot get to where you want to be. If your doc is still resistant, if it were me, I would say 'nice knowing you, I'll be seeking another doctor.'

| | | Amen! to what Stacey and duck said!! Fight for what YOU need!! Expecially when your insurance gives you up to 200!! I'll never understand docs that do this!! It's almost like they want you to get worse, cuz they somehow get more $$ off of it that way! UGH!

| | | No offense but GET A NEW DOCTOR!! Any Doc who tells you not to test is just patronizing your care, and doesn't believe that you want to have great control of your Diabetes. Realize that him saying that you shouldn't test goes against all the teachings and knowledge of the top Diabetes endos and docs. He just plain wrong.....or better yet negligent.
My Dr. said that i shouldn't test 2 hours after meal. He cited that it would be innacurate. Guess what! I went to an endo, and he told me that my doc was dead wrong (and so did the great people on this board - thanks guys). That aforementioned doctor no longer oversees anything in regards to my health. I'm shopping for a new doc as we speak. bottom line, you should be testing at least 4-6 times a day. No matter what this vakakta (opposite of good) doctor says. You need to tell your doctor that your falling asleep after dinner, unless this is what you want to happen!! You need to tell your doctor that your BG's are falling after meals.

| | | UpDate Spoke with Doctor today, this is how it went Doc : How's your BS? Samu: I have questions, first you have me taking 1 reading a day and that's fine if I was eating once a day but im not and we will no longer take 1 reading a day. Doc: but your insurance company won't..... Samu: wrong my insurance company allows me 200 Tstrips a month. Doc: they will allow if it's un-controlled and...... Samu: Look this is my body, my disease, my damage that I did to myself!!! I don't care how you write it but I want the strips.
She wrote script for 120 TS... VICTORY is mine.
Of course short lived....This nut turns around and tells me that since my suger was BORDERLINE twice in august and sept 2006, maybe I won't need meds after awhile with the right diet. I looked at her like she was crazy and said I've gone through all of this because my BS was high a couple of times. Do I have Type 2 or not
Doc: well since your readings are always within the limits, but when you get dizzy and light-headed....
Samu: I never get dizzy or light-headed, you of all people know that I use to have candy in my mouth 24/7, you knew I suffer from lack of sleep, and yes I don't eat right but I never have, I asked you before WHY is my A1C so normal and my readings are normal all the time except when I eat that triple fudge chocolate cake(soda does not raise or lower my BS), Why do I take byetta if my BS drops so much after I eat. My BS has been high maybe 12 times since Oct 2006, that's with the Metformin and without. WHY THE **** AM I GOING TO YOU!!!!!
That got my Blood Pressure up I left, but not before taking my prescription for the strips!!!!!
She took me off Byetta now im just on Metformin

| | | Samu, to be fair, your doc sees a lot of people, probably. You'll need to keep careful records and allow your doc access to those records. You'll also need to set goals and allow your doc input on those goals, and work with the doc. Of course, you are always free to choose another doc, etc. if this one is not compliant with your needs. But now that you've won one victory, let's try and ally ourselves with the doc so you can win entire campaigns and ultimately, this war.

| | | thats the same **** my doctor tried to pull, but when she seen i was persistant in asking for more strips, she didnt have a problem with it
she then actually started to say, that she likes it when patients want to test more, but MOST of the patients here in this area of kentucky wont test like they should, i know plenty of diabetics, and none of them test as much as i do.....
so that is good that at least you got more, from my calculations you got about 4 per day
now you just need to work with your husbands docs lol
as far as staying with this doc....you might wanna just try it one or two more visits and wait and see what happens.... then decide to go to another if things are to your liking

As far as goals and working together we work really well together, she knows that If I disagree I will speak up and she likes that as well. She also likes that I will research and bring back to her what I think.
she said it's good that I am aware of whats going on with my body and that I only have one and nobody knows it better than me.
I will win this war it's just a matter of time(by the end of this year)(will be adjusted accordingly) Quote:
