Unhappy Problems taking my meds

Hello All,

It has been a while sice i posted, so I thought that I would try this again.

I am having a major problem with "making myself" take my meds. I realize the complications if I do not take my meds, but it doesn't faze me. I want to take my meds, test regularly, and do the right things to make me better. BUT, I keep on not taking or doing any of these things.

DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

They would br greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Wow, well I am sorry you have to go thru that, but me being a type 1 i'd be coma level in a few days.........So, just think it is a pill, and yes you can survive a while without takin your med's but you make your diabetes worse and then your pancreas weaker, then you will eventually need insulin, and then if you forget then boom it'll be worse off........But I know about testing I never liked to do it all the time till I hit about 567 in August then I thought hmmmmmmmmmm....maybe I need to take this a bit seriously......

I wasn't trying to be rough on you at all, but I want to see you make it thru, good luck and take those med's and slowly get into that routine of testing, don't wait till it is too late, or for complications to set in

Hello!

What kind of problems are you experiencing? Is it because you don't really want to take them? Is it because you haven't come to terms with taking those meds? Or is it because you can't swallow them? (I had that prob!) ... Is it because you forget to take them? (I use a dosette, it's really handy and no more mix ups for me).

It takes a while perhaps to get into a routine. How long have you been on meds by the way?

Do as I do : put the meds where they will be right under your nose! Mine are on the kitchen counter, and my meter is there too. Right by the coffee machine. I can't miss it

The very best to you,

i hated the thought of taking meds, ive had high blood pressure since 19 yrs old, you know kinda young to be on meds the rest of my life, and frankly i never went to the doctor until i was 21 with insurance, then there were times i didnt have insurance couldnt afford doctors/meds.... so i went without my BP meds for years sometimes

BUT

when it came to diabetes, it was either me take them, change my life, or LOSE A LIMB, LOSE MY VISION (what little i have left), OR EVEN DIE!!!!!!!!!

but excuse me when you have diabetes YOU CANT IGNORE IT its not like some cold that will go away in 5 days if you ignore it, this is a life changing event, you have to get into a normal diabetic routine

get a family member you live with, if you live with any, and have them to remind you every day, did you take your meds?? if not let me watch you

my husband just recently got on lipitor for his cholesterol and i had to buy him one of those weekly thing so he knew what day it was and it reminded him to take his meds, we stick it right in front of his computer lol since that's where he spends most of his time.

with me, now that im in the habit of taking them daily, i dont need them to be constantly staring at me i can remember to take them now

But its your life, if you cant take control and make the right decision, then its your body when it fails, no one here can force you to do the right thing, other than try to give advice

Sometimes just gettting started is the hardest part.

Why not start now? Please tell me that you have just taken the dosage that you are supposed to take for today. Go do it now!

Test you blood glucose now, too, and tell me what it is. If you haven't tested in long time, just be brave, hold your breath, and test. Be prepared for it to be high, but be assured that you can bring it down from there. You know the saying--- They journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.

Welcome William:
It's hard to get used to taking meds and checking levels when you've not done it...but it's SO IMPORTANT for your overall health and to keep complications at bay.

Do you have bad side effects with your medicine? What type are you taking? There are many choices and you and your doctor should work to find what best works for you.

My mother was a diabetic, diagnosed at age 28. She lived her life as if she didn't have diabetes, didn't watch what she ate and only sporadically took her medication. She died at age 54 of renal failure after losing her leg and having retinopathy and a heart attack. She might still be alive had she decided to try to take care of her diabetes.

I don't particularly like sticking myself several times a day and i'd rather not have to buy strips, lancets, medicines and special foods; however, I like the idea of dying even less.

You are WORTH doing whatever it takes to keep yourself as healthy as you can.

You're not alone, there are many here to offer advice and support, but YOU have to be the one to decide to take charge of your life and your diabetes BEFORE it takes control of you.

Let us know how you're doing.

Linda

Perhaps you need to visit a hospital where people with diabetic complications are being treated.

It might scare the !@#$@#$@#$ out of you, providing motivation.

Hello William, you are so young! Try very hard to do the right thing and help your body be healthy. You have so much ahead of you and you will enjoy life's adventures so much more if you take control now!
Good luck, everyone here will offer support. Meg

William, this is not a matter of choice, if you want to live your life to its fullest then take your meds, set an alarm, place them in a place where you will see it every day....Reasons to take med - life, the wonder of the world, I get up early every morning even on weekends and I am amazed at watching the beauty of the sun rising in the horizon, hearing the horses that live in the field next to us, the birds waiting for me to fill the feeders.....and of course the most important thing, family and friends. ......things like this are reason to take your meds
