| | | A1c inquiry I got my A1c tested January 16 and it was 10.5. Today, I had it tested again.
Is it too soon to show any significant improvement? It's only been 7 weeks. |

| | | It depends on what changes you have made. An A1C is an average of your BG levels over 3 months with 50% of the value weighted in the last month. So if you've made changes that have made an immediate impact on your BG levels then you will definitely see a change. Good luck.

| | | Yep it's definitely possible to see a change in just a few weeks. As Jedi said, around half of your result is heavily weighted on the last 4 - 6 weeks (depending on where you get your info... or maybe depending on the individual body?)
Good luck for your results!

| | | I was diagnosed with an A1c of 10.7. Three months later it was 5.7. You should have no problem if you have been "good."

| | | I was 8.2 when diagnosed then 2 months later I was 5.8. Two months after that I was 5.2. I was really surprised at how much it changed in such a short time. But if you've been diligent, you'll definitely see improvement.
Good luck!

Is it too soon to show any significant improvement? It's only been 7 weeks. | I compared the Fasting and PP sugar figures. In Nov 2006FBS was 138. On 6-1`2-06 it was 100 on 11-1-07 it was 110 and on 25-2-07 98. The PP figures were f0r december-126, for Jan 07 120 and for 25-2-07 it was 110. The GAic figure on 11-3-07 indicating the 3 months figure is 7.9%. I feel this is not correct because with average blood sugar figures- being 120. the Aic figure shd be around 6 or defi nitely less than 7. How can it be 7.9 ? I am intrigued. Can somebody clarify this? thanks- R.Kuppurao. |

The beauty of A1Cs is that you know if you're on the right track or not. It's important to know if you are. It used to be a very upsetting worrying time for me waiting for my A1C results but it's not anymore. I want to know how I am doing. It's not a question of having a low number anymore but rather a question of how am I really doing. If my A1C is better than the last I am happy and it motivates me to strive for a even better one. It tells me that whatever I'm doing works for me. If my A1C is higher than my last one it tells me something's wrong and reminds me I have to do something about it straight away. I trust the A1C more than my daily BG checks. It gives me an overall view of how I am doing. |

cheryl | I agree you might be missing your highs when you test. Have you read the advice at Test, Test, Test?
Thousands of diabetics have followed this advice to figure out how different foods affect them. For example, simple sugars like fruit will give you a spike much faster than two hours.

| | | I was diagnosed on Nov. 20, 2006 with an a1c of 7.6. My a1c 53 days later, on Jan. 11, was 6.4.
Actually though, I didn't get my meter and change my way of eating until Dec. 8, so the change really only occurred over 35 days.
My doctor asked me to make an appointment about 1 month after diagnosis, I assume so they can find out more quickly if you have any questions and are headed in the right direction. After that, my appointments will be every three months.
Hoping for a three month number in the 5's!

| | | Panda. How are you liking your Omnipod as that is a great result of your A1C. Is the Navigator a CGMS?
Wowsa, I am impressed.

| | | Got the results. My A1cis now 8.1, so it dropped 2.4 points.
Another thing bothering me is I measured my glucose 20 minutes before going to the doctor and it was 115. His lab results measured it at 167. I ate nothing in that twenty minutes. How would the number jump? The only thing I can think is stress. I hate having blood drawn. I don't think my meter is unrealiable since it's brand new. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
