Dizziness Question

Hi,

I have been wondering why I have episodes of dizziness. I told Doc and he said not my sugar, but it seems that when my sugar is coming down from a higher reading and dropping fast, I get real dizzy. Sometimes is so bad, I think I am going to pass out. I always get a drink or two of orange juice and then I do feel better.

Does sugar dropping make you dizzy? Anyone with experience with this? Sugar was 145 and drank some milk and now 152.

I am used to higher numbers because was scared of lows, but some very nice people here helped me to get my numbers way down today and I am so thankful for that.

I just hate feeling woozy and dizzy. Any help appreciated.

I also have dizzy spells. I was also told it was not my diabetes causing it. I was told it could be because I am anemic. I also notice it happens more often when I have a low, and usually eating a little something helps.

Thanks Penny. They are awful aren't they? I don't think I am anemic, but my red count is higher than it should be and Doc says don't worry about it. I don't know if that would have something to do with it or not.

When I eat is better too and I was just looking at a flyer of Diabetes symptoms for lows I have hung up and it says dizziness for lows.

I am wondering if it is because of sugar dropping too fast? Wonder if that could be?

Sometimes when I stand up I get dizzy from a drop in blood pressure. Which also makes me a little nauseous. Some times when I get nauseous for other reasons I may feel a little dizzy. One of the things that can make me feel nauseous is a sudden rapid drop in glucose levels that feels like I am on a fast descending elevator which makes my stomach start to feel like it's going to flip flop and I feel dizzy. Avoiding high bg levels and the corresponding bg swings by keeping bg's in control helps to prevent this. It still happens, although infrequently, when I might drop from 130 to 70 in a few minutes. These however of such a short duration by the time I grab a snack the feeling is over and I just have a headache and maybe the shakes until the snack or my liver kicks in.

I have experenced a lot of dizziness due to both low blood pressure and panic attacks, but learned to differentiate between different types.

This is a bit difficult to explain, but the general rule for me is that if objects seem to go from side to side in your field of vision, the reason is usually anaemia or low blood pressure or some other physical ailment. If you experience a spinning effect - the room swirling around you, for example, there is a good chance it's triggered by anxiety or panic attack.

Please bear in mind that this is an individual experience and I'm only relating what I know is true for myself.

I had a dizzy spell the other week.

I woke up, peaked around the curtain and noticed everything was (quite litterally) spinning. I thought I had got up to quickly and had experienced a head rush so laid back down for a few seconds.

I tried to get out of bed and the whole room was spinning. As I looked around the room (with it still spinning) I started looking for my BG meter to see if my levels were too low or high or something.

By the time I had managed to walk across the room to find my meter I was now so dizzy I was feeling sick so rushed to the bathroom. I then somehow managed to get back in to bed and the spinning/dizziness was still bad!

After about an hour or so of lying in bed it seemed to dissapear (and touch wood) it has not come back since.

After carefull thought (and a bit of googleing) I think the problem was the meal I had the night before, I had a salad with some pickled green peppers and I think too many of these peppers can cause dizziness!

Wont be having them again...

I tended to be that way when first on the metformin, I felt as if walking on a ship...Also now that the numbers are lower, my body is adjusting to the fact they are lower and more normal and if I am under 90, I still feel slightly unbalanced (hubby says I'm always unbalanced lol) but that is getting better

It is nice reading everyone's experience. I think it is because of too fast a drop since so high. Today and yesterday weren't so bad and I was slightly dizzy twice today, but not that room spinning that you don't think you can sit in a chair even. I was able to drive today too, which I am the only driver.

My BG today was no higher than 157 just now, and for me that is so good. I was in ER today for my stomach and tests, but had a can of Glucerna for a late lunch cause knew sugar was going down. ER doc said I was doing good with it since he was the one who diagnosed me when I went to ER for feeling so tired and it was 190 and sent me to my doc for consultation about it.

There is so much stuff that goes along with this diabetes isn't there? Reading everyone's posts here sure is helping me understand so much I didn't know.

Thanks so very much for sharing your experiences.
