Do any of you ever get these???


I was told by a friend today finally what they were. Ive had several a year for the past 5 to 6 years. And I researched it today and I had a form of a boil years ago when I was 12 called a Pilonidal cyst which is to be removed by a physician. I had no idea these things were in the same classification.

But according to this website, it says people with diabetes are more prone to this since our immune system is comprimised.

I generally just peroxide it or put neosporin on it unti it clears up, and there has been times that they get really bad, but I didnt feel the need to go to a doctor cause it wasnt affecting me badle in anyway even with those bad ones. Now since reading this, is says for people with diabetes to speak with a doctor about it.

But I'm not going to make a special trip to the docs just for this. Especially since Im already taking antibotics for my ear infection.

So what do you guys do if you get these?

Hey Stacy: I have had problems with these in the past, esp. before my diagnosis when my blood sugars were apparently high. I tend to get them on my abdomen. My co-worker, a fellow-diabetic, gets them on her thighs regularly.

Depending on what type of antibiotic you're on, you may be covered for the boil as well.

We see a lot of these at the dermatology office I work at (men and women, but mostly women). She usually tells people to put warm compresses on them until they start to drain, then cover with antibiotic ointment and bandage. If they become really large and sore, she will often treat with antibiotics (usu. doxycycline) for a week or so and then remove them. If they aren't completely removed, the cyst tract remains under the skin and will often recur at some point.

Resist the urge to try to "pop" them, as this can lead to more problems. Boils are more commonly seen in women with PCOS, as are skin tags.

I had a couple just prior to dx. One had to be lanced. Not fun.

Supposedly comes with the territory and is frequently the way people get diagnosed. (several of them within a certain period of time is a red flag to test for D. )

Jim, are you on metformin? I assume that it has been helping with the insulin resistence, thefore less problems with boils...wondering if it's actually the high BS levels causing them or the insulin resistence....whatever is helping, i'm sure glad it is!

I'm on Metformin. No problem with boils since being diagnosed. Had two in 6 months just prior to going on meds (fasting BG was 303 when Dx'd).

I think they're tied to high BG. Lot's of sugar in the blood helps the nasties grow apparently. Wouldn't bother me a bit if I never had another one in my life. Last one got to be the size of a tennis ball cut in half and was unbelievably painful, not to mention disgusting.

Yes I was plagued by these things before I got under control I would get them on my side and upper buttocks I must have gotten a dozen of them in a relatively short period of time.

Also had opened small lesions on my fore head that would not heal for years they just stayed freshly opened and never healed.

These all went away when I became a compliant nice guy.

So it's good not to be a Rebel and get your yourself under control.

I have no idea why these things came upon me but I'm sure Job's condition was quite a bit worse. I'm grateful

Yup...... if I travel and sit too long, I can have problems. I have found that applying triple antibiotic when sitting for long periods of time stop them from happening. If I do get one, so far triple antibiotic has cleared them up almost overnight.

Well, I put this in the category of "Ya Learn Somethin' New Everyday." I've heard of boils and cysts, but I had never heard of a blood boil or a pilodinal cyst.

lol, well I'll tell you how I found out about the cyst, cause I had never heard about one either.

magically one day, my butt started hurting like the upper of the crack, I kept telling my mom that something had happened (ironically the day it started hurting, i was playing crab soccer at school, and my buttbone hit the concrete floor) so i came home and told her that i thought i cracked my tailbone.

well she kept insisting there was nothing that could be done for a cracked tailbone and to just get over it (this pissed me off, but what could a 12 year old do) anywho... 3 months later (of agonizing pain might i add) i couldnt get to my classes as school as they were up 2 flights of stairs

I called granny! lol so then in turn granny called mom and threatened her to take me or else. So mom came to school and picked me up, on the way to the doctors office, in her exact words

"If there's nothing wrong with you, I'm gonna bust your A$$"

So few mins later, doc takes a look at my behind (so embarrsing) he looks up and says, she going to have to have surgery

mom's mouth hit the floor and i said to her "NEENER NEENER NEENER" told you there was something wrong.


let me tell you it was SOOOOOO painful, and I have the scar down my crack to prove it lol its about 5 inches long.


And til this day, i have never forgave my mom, for not taking me to the doctor when I needed it (this was not the only occasion either, there was another time when i had a bladder infection, that i complained with for weeks, also had to call granny for reinforcement, doc said if she hadnt have came into today, tomarrow she would have been in the hospital)

So needless to say, I DONT LIKE MY MOM very much. But thats another topic. lol

Without getting tooooo graphic, mine was in the uhh, groinular area, and it had to be lanced by a surgeon as my GP didn't want to even touch it.

Lanced being a polite term for saying he jammed a scalpel in my groin and rooted around until the thing bled.

found out when i had one that if it pops put white vinegar on it and it will dry up in time the one i had i had for about twenty years and i found out the vinegar by mistake i will tell you it will hurt like he-- when you do but it works but it will also will take some time for some that had one for a long time.
