| | | Insulin Resistance vs coach potatoe I just took my first two day education course in a number of years. It was amazing what a help it was.
I've been having a very discouraging time trying to lose weight. And trying to keep my BG's in control. I knew, since I've been Type 2 for twenty years that I was probably insulin resistance. The educator told us she suspected that anyone with a BMI over 38 and is Type 2 for any amount of time at all was insulin resistant. The only way to overcome it is exercise. I tried not to believe her. I am a dedicated coach potatoe. I don't like it and it makes me feel guilty; but what can I say.
I said "okay, I'll go to the gym."
Lol and behold, everything they say about exercise is right. After the first day, my blood sugars were in much better control. I only exercised every other day the first week. And it helped on all seven days. Now I've started brisk walking 3 times a week, and circuit training 3 times a week. It's cheaper than more co-pays--I only pay $10 a month and volunteer once a week. During the volunteer time I can exercise.
Now this is going to seem ridiculous to you younger, more ambitious souls; but I'm going to brag anyway. I've lost a whopping 2.5 lbs. My blood sugars have stayed within range. And I don't even want to sleep on the couch all day.
LIFE IS GOOD!!

| | | Sydneya, Your'e doing great, and I will try to let you inspire me! I do walk almost everyday, but not briskly. It is just too painful. I am working on finding other ways to do it. Two and a half pounds is a lot, and I am happy for you.

| | Congrats!
I still haven't gotten off my butt as much as I should.
I'm not a couch potato... I'm a computer-chair potato.
I'm waiting for spring to get back on my bicycle and hit the trails that follow the Ohio river. My stationary bike is so boring. Me and my wife are going to start going on walks together as well. She'll make me go if I start wimping out. lol. |

| | | This week's Newsweek had a number of articles about the benefits of regular exercise. Personally I've become a big proponent of the importance of activity and exercise ever since I got my wakeup in August of 2005, played a round of golf, and then started golfing regularly. It showed me how out of shape I had become, how sedentary I had become.
Life's a lot more fun since becoming active. That's maybe the biggest thing of all. Life's a lot more fun doing things versus sitting on my butt. I've gotten to run a couple of 5K's, I've shot some rounds of golf in the low 80's and overall my mood tends to be more positive. |

| | Two thumbs up!!!! Congratulations Sydneya! You will never know what a service you are doing to your body.
I will let you know that my Mother was also a dedicated couch potato for more than 20 years. She recently fell because she was unsteady on her feet (lack of muscle tone) she had a heart attack in the hospital (because her heart was clogged) and she had a quadruple bypass. All of the people in the hospital that had bypass were up and walking in about three days. My Mother is now over a month and a half in bed and cannot walk, turn herself over or control bodily functions (no muscle tone).
I am always thankful to hear when someone is a reformed couch potato. It will ruin your life and eventually kill you. You good blood glucose is just another perk! Thank goodness you saw the light before you ended up like my Mom.
You can also just have fun! Shoot hoops, ride a bike to the store, or just play with the kids.
Congratulations! I am so happy for you. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
