im stressed and disorganised

Ive just got my mum out of hospital a week ago and I'm doing all i can to help Her(I'm her slave) but I'm forgetting to eat.the weight is falling off me seriously. (my jeans are very saggy at the backside)and i cant seem to get into a proper routine where i sit down and eat proper food.im living on sugar free frothy coffees.not good really.obviously my blood sugar reading have dropped even my morning reading is 4.5 i do realise I'm not cured.i think I'm starting to realise that my routine is the key and being organised in what i eat but I'm failing to keep any sort of schedule.how does everyone plan their day.can i assume that the stress I'm under is a factor in my whole diabetes thing.ive got the clinic tomorrow and i think they are going to be telling me to gain weight....lol...oh Ive to see a dietitian to the first appointment available to me on the NHS is the 3rd of October at 10.15....any suggestions would be gratefully received..i think had the diabetes thing not reared it s ugly head id be snacking on biccies and crisps but ive cut all the rubbish out so i dont eat anything..oh and the other slight worry is my hubby works away from home and he has been in norway for a month(he comes home tomorrow) i was diagnosed just before he went away...and he was fond of my curves..i think he is going to hardly recognise me. ..love noogsy...xxx

Hi Noogsy: So sorry things are so stressful for you right now. When life gets in the way, it's hard to eat right. I've found, however, that if I don't eat regularly, I feel bad.

Perhaps you could find some type of high-protein cereal bar to have for b/fast, that you could eat on the run with your coffee (here in the States, we have South Beach B/fast bars and Fiber-One bars). This could even work as a snack on the run as well.

Something I do that helps me a lot is whenever I have time, I will cook more than we can eat (throw in a few x-tra of whatever meat i'm cooking) and then have it in the fridge to heat and eat quickly on those days I don't feel like cooking. I also buy the low carb tortillas and fill them with lunch meat, canned tuna, scrambled eggs, veggies. anything you like.

Hopefully, things will settle down for you soon. You have to make a little time to take care of yourself though.

Take care!
Linda

Many years ago I was taking care of my mother who had terminal cancer. At the time my kids were just babies and I had gone back to school. Needless to say... I was last on my list of priorities.

Not a good idea, diabetic or not. How can you do your very best if you don't take care of yourself too in the process? I learned the hard way let me tell you.

Now I take care of elderly people at home. I see family members doing the same as I did... I think it's human nature to put loved ones first. But by taking care of yourself at the same time you actually do more and ensure high quality care to your loved ones. Important to look after what's going on in your mind and heart too!

The very best to you.

If you can...try just little steps to regain control of your schedule/ time.

Take a 10 minute morning break for a breather and to clear your head - try to do it at approx. the same time each morning. Take a regular lunch time also - even if you don't eat much. Just take time to sit/walk and breathe ;-) Do it again in the afternoon and before bedtime, etc.

It's not easy, but the little bits of time become an oasis that you look forward to. It also helps to sit down and write out a schedule to follow - don't try to put too much on it, just the basics....including the time for yourself. It seems to work for me, as long as I don't try to be superman ;-)

You can do it!
