| | What makes BG drop to 50 after eating Pizza? Hi, This is weird what would make my BG go down to 50 after eating a large pizza? I took my pills 1 hour before eating a pizza and then went outside and worked for a hour. The outside temp was in the 90's. Got real weak and came in and checked BG and found it at 50. Took at least a hour to get back normal after taking my Glucose tablets. It seemed to take forever to get me back to normal. It would look like my BG would be high instead of low after eating large pizza.
Thanks, Rob |

| | Well what was your bs before you ate? Also, what do you do for work? Anything strenuous? Also I'm sure the heat had a lot to do with it. I notice if I exercise or do anything strenuous and it's hot my bs drops and takes quite a while to get it back up. |

| | Hi, My BG was 125 before I ate the pizza. I was moving a ladder around outside of my house in the heat which was in the 90's. The day before this happened I had drank a coffee with alot of caffeine in it and it caused me to have bad diarear. I think the diarear is caused by my blood pressure pills trying to keep my blood pressure down and caffeine wants to make my blood pressure go up at the same time.
Thanks, Rob |

| | | Good questions. Also, how long after you ate did you have that 50 and what pills did you take?
Pizza is a high fat food, so the carbs are absorbed more slowly. While most food will spike my BG at 2 hours, my post-pizza BG spike will be delayed to 4 hours. Dealing with pizza is one reason why pumps now have an option called a dual wave/extended bolus.

| | | They actually have a name for it, it's called the "pizza effect". Foods high in fat usually cause slower digestion.
Sounds like that combined with the exercise caused your low. You should stick a roll of glucose tabs in your test kit.

With glucose tablets I'll be on the safe side |

| | Hi, I take two 1000 mgs of metformin a day and one Glyburide 5 mgs a day also. I take these in the morning. It was a half hour after I ate.
Thanks, Rob |

| | | Do you think it may have been because you were dehydrated? I go off kilter whenever my water drops. I worked hard over the last few days and it was HOT. I drank over a gallon extra of water to keep myself in my usual range and when I finally pee'd it was a little darker than usual |
