What does your Metformin look like?

I was prescribed Metformin by my physician to try and help with weight issues and insulin. So far the impact is negligable.

However, I got a one month supply from my pharmacy and it was a 500mg round pill with a Z stamped on one side and a 70 stamped on the other. It did have sort of a funny smell like someone here mentioned. It said on the bottle that it was metformin and did not say it was a generic. Today, I got my three month supply from Express Scripts. It also says it is not generic. However, it is a long capsule shaped pill with MEt stamped on one side and APO500 on the other. What is the difference????

Huh......that is exactly it. I thought they had to write on the bottle when it was generic. Interesting. Thanks barko.

It all depends upon the manufacturer Nancy. Mine are 1000mg pills and are oval, says nothing on one side, and the other side has a grove in the center and GP 123. I get mine from WalMart and the manufacturer is Sandoz. When I was getting mine from RX Outreach, I would get one of two different manufacturers. One started with a T and I forget the other one. All being oval shaped. I MAY have had round ones with my first prescription of the 500 mg pill, but that was almost 2 years ago, and the memory has faded! LOL

my metformin tab has 93 on one side and 43 on the other.i think it just depends on which company makes the tablet.my tablet tastes odd but it is a long oval shape.but i will asume you and me are on the same 500 tablet made by diffrent companys.i think this is the diffrence.oh and i discused with my specialist metformin yesterday and it is front line when first diagnosed with diabetes.she said it was one of the oldest used drugs and no one understands why it works?which is quite scary that even the specialists are guessing as to why metformin works...any way its one of these mysteries...love noogsy

I get mine from Medco and it says Mfg: APOTEX on the bottle. The pill is long, with curved ends (not oval) says APO850 on one side, nothing on the other. Last time I got my order of Simvastin, I dumped the bottle into the old bottle which was not used yet, before I noticed they were different. The old ones were pinkish, shield shaped, the new ones the same color, but round. I sometimes worry about getting my pills mail order because of this, there is no one to ask if there has been a mistake.

Most metformin sold in the US by health care providers are generic, made by several companies outside the US, mainly India. Each one looks different. I guess there are no restrictions on that.

I couldn't think of "oblong" either! I have been inhaling that smoke for a lot longer than you have.

Mine is Metformin HC 1000 mg and is white and oblong and says APO1000 on one side. The back side is blank other than the scored line to "divide" it in half.
