| | | Welcome.
Do you see an endocrinologist? Stay in regular contact with your doctors. Type 2 is a long slow process of pancreatic failure. You may go through many medication changes. |

| | | I thought type 2 was mostly insulin resistance while type 1 was the auto-immune problem where your beta cells are destroyed (no more insulin production).
I've never heard of anyone going from type 1 to type 2 I agree that a good endo visit is in order...

| | | You don't go from type 1 to type 2.
If I read your post correctly you are not using insulin and you have BG below 7.
It sounds like you were misdiagnosed originally as type 1.
Watch the carbs in your diet. You may need oral meds like metformin (glucophage).
Talk to your doctor.

| | | Sounds like a misdiagnosis to me too. Make an appointment with an Endo and ask for a C-Peptide.

| | | I am about 99.9% sure that you were misdiagnosed the first time by your doctor. A type one does not get better without insulin. You can't switch to pills if you eat right and eventually go on a diet only regime if you really really eat right. Just doesn't happen. If it did, a lot of us would be off insulin.
Luckily, it sounds as if you were misdiagnosed. Being able to control your blood sugar by diet only is great. Keep in close contact with your (new) doctor. Things can change and you may find that you need to go back to taking medication.
I was misdiagnosed as a type two by my doctor for about two days. I then went into the hospital with dka and spent a week recouperating from this misdiagnosis. Go to your new doctor and ask for reasons for the changes. |

| | | Like Nancy, I too was originally misdiagnosed as Type 2, but found out I was Type 1 when I went into the hospital DKA. An initial BG and dr's exam is not always sufficient. Try and get lab tests if you can for c-peptide and GAD antibodies to get the real story on whether your body is producing barely enough or way too much insulin, and if you have any T1 auto-immune problems lurking in wait.
cheers,
j
