| | | I was on it or one of its clones for many years. Iy is one of the oldest meds on the market. Nothing wrong with it other than the tendency to produce hypo's if you don't get dosage right.

| | | Re: Glucotrol Hello Blurwheels.
I have been a Diabetic for 18 yrs. 11 of those yrs. I took Glucotrol and Glucophage together. Never had a problem until they quit working. I had a very lousy Dr. who did not have enough sense to know this. She finally sent me to an Endocrinologist who put me on insulin. After a week in the hospital with impacted bowels, an extended bladder, kidneys trying to fail. Long story short, I take 4 short shots of insulin w/pen, 1 long shot of Lantus w/syringe, each day. I have severe neuropathy in my hands, legs, feet, and back
Never had a low on glucotrol or glucopharge, Made up for it since on insulin. Medics twice, hospital once. My husband brought me out of it a few times with candy. I just use candy, for me it is quickest acting. I have a bowl on the buffet, a bag in my purse. Do not give me stuff I can choke on! I am 70 yrs. old and still in very GOOD health. Especially now!! |

| | | I've taken a variety of it ever since I was diagnosed, about '89. Never had a problem specifically with it, but in combo, I do have to watch about going hypo.

Max | Hey Blurwheels,
I'm on a form of Glucatrol now (Glipizide 5mg 1x/day), and it's working quite well. I can tell you it's a lot easier for me to keep my levels below 200 with this medication. When I went off glucatrol last month, I couldn't keep it under 400.
It should work pretty well for you.
John

| | | I took Glipizide (generic Glucotrol) for 1-1/2 years, did fine with it. In the end, it wasn't enough to help me out, but I had no problems, other than occasional lows.

| | | I was on Glucotrol for a while earlier this year. I never had any problems with it, but my Endo doesn't like it very much. From what he tells me, Glucotrol apparently works by stimulating the pancreas to secret more insulin. He says that this can occasionally cause the pancreas to burn out more quickly than it normally would.
