Drug interaction

I take 500mg Metformin 2x a day, along with 5mg of Glyburide in the am and an Altace.

My last A1c was 4.8 - I have no idea how...

I just started on doxycyclin for Lyme, and have noticed that my bg readings are consistently 20-40 points higher than they were. It *really* doesn't agree with me too.

Does this sound normal? Anyone else been fortunate enough to be on this particular combo?

No direct experience but I would ask your pharmacist about it. I think they know more about drug interactions than the docs know.

A couple of thoughts. Obviously your body is under stress, physically and emotionally, from fighting the Lyme. Stress tends to raise BGs. Also Type 2 is not generally a static condition but a progressive one. It may be time for the next step of medications.

So with an A1c of 4.8 and fasting levels in the 80's-90's (as opposed to the 50's they were less than a week ago) you now think I should be upping my meds.

I'm glad you aren't an endocrinologist.

Not sure, but you may want to check with your pharmacist as MJB said... this site says there may be an Altace and Glucophage interaction that can potentially cause lactic acidosis:

Also...may want to check on Altace and Glyburide...
Ref: Complete Altace information from Drugs.com

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Altace . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Certain medicines for diabetes (eg, glyburide, glipizide), lithium, or azathioprine because the actions and side effects of these medicines may be increased
