1st A1c post Dx

My doc diagnosed me with A1c of 8.8 three months ago. She was going for meds at first but I told her I wanted to do diet and exercise only.

She said recently that if my new A1c comes back greater than 7.5 then she wanted to start the meds. I should ask her what she's planning to Rx.

Anyway, I got snail mail from her today. My new A1c is 6.0 - clearly better than 7.5 (or 8.8) but how good is that for just diet and exercise?

Is 5.5 a good goal for my next test? Will that be much harder?

Keep in mind it's a three month average. You were probably in the 8's at the start of the three months. Staying the course should get you under 6.0 easily. Should.

That's a great A1c for a diabetic not taking meds.

We're all different so you can't really know if you can get down to 5.5 or not but you can shoot for that. Congrats!

firstly - well done!!!

i was up at 8.0 in September - and a week or so ago came in at 5.9%! i was also aiming for 5.5%. so i was pleased at the 5.9% and disappointed at the same time!

however, i have read somewhere that red blood cells can live for 120 days. therefore, i am hopeful that by staying the current course it will drop further.

keep it up!!!
