| | | Can u get a false low reading im still new to all this and i orignally had an accu-chek advantage (that the hospital give me) and i managed to get my numbers down about 110ish
some freak results of 140 - 170 i realsed that i needed to wash my hands properly to make sure i had no apple / fruit on finger tips etc (like i say kinda new to this.. and also dumb) and then took it again and i would be lower. so i found out how it was possible to get a false high reading, during xmas i ran out of test strips an i wasnt going to pay 26GBP (55USD) for more when i could get em for free from doc after xmas so i payed 10 GBP for a new meter with some test strips (Accu Chek Compact Plus) my results are generally lower than the accu chek advantage and im even gettin readings of 65 sometimes.
i was wondering if the accu chek advantage is less accuate or if the accu chek compact plus is, or is somethin can cause false low results , or if i really am gettin lower etc
thnx for all ya help |

See if you can get one. Quote: |

| Yes there is difference in between meters but then it's a guide to Ware you are and by being a novice at this I would rather know ware you are in the BG's rather than guessing. Quote:

| | | There apparently can be quite big variations between meters but I have an accucheck go (in mg/dl) and an accucheck compact in mmol and they seeem to be very close in their readings. Hopefully you really are seeing lower readings as you BS gets under control.
I've very occasionally got obviously wrong low readings - earlier today I knew I was low and tested, the meter said 'lo' (which means extremely low) a second reading said 59, much more how I felt. |

| | | like helen said there will be variations between meters. also variations between different fingers tested at the same time!
just stick to using one meter so that your readings are consistant.
the cold weather throws mine out too. i tested my cold hand the other evening before dinner, it read 4.2, i tested again 10 mintues later when i had warmed up and the meter read 5.6! i hadnt eaten anything yet!

| | | One thing to keep in mind is that all meters are only accurate to within 20%, so if your BG is really 100, you will get readings anywhere between 80 and 120. So, if one meter says 80, and the other 120, they are both "correct".

| | | Oddly enough, it's also possible to get different readings between both hands. I had this happen not long ago. I got a reading of 140 (the lowest I had up to that point), on one hand, so I tried the other to confirm it, and the reading was 160.
As previously mentioned, it's very important to use your test solution on occasion to verify that your machine is reading properly.
Regards,
