Why would BS go down after eating?

3 months ago I was diagnosed with type 2 again after regaining weight I had lost in the past. The doctor had me on 5mg Glipizide XL once daily and 500mg Metformin 2x daily. I also put myself back on a diet and excercise regimin. My first A1C was like 9%.

I went back to the doctor for my three month checkup last week. In that three months, I had lost 60 pounds and told the doctor I hadn't seen my BS hit 100 in months. It was always in the 70's-90's. I asked if I still had to take the meds and she said yes. They took a blood sample and she mailed me the results. My A1C
was down to 4.9, so she told me to stop the Glipizide and keep taking the Metformin and monitor my BS.

Yesterday I woke up and my BS was 72 and I stopped taking the Glipizide that day. I woke up today and it was 102....so that had me a wee bit concerned to have a fasting level of 102. I had breakfast which consisted of some Egg Beaters with ham, a whole wheat English Muffin (25 G Carbs), Sugar Free Jelly, 1/2 cup light OJ (8G) and a banana (27G). That's 60G of Carbs. I decided to check my BS again after almost 2 hours after eating. It dropped to 95. I took it again about 2 1/2 hours after dinner (some corn, carrots, peas, green beans) and excercise and it was 93. I'd venture to guess my diabetes is totally gone again since my body seems to be handling sugar on its own again.

You are doing really well.

Just as time (and years) go by, keep an eye and do check yourself periodically. It is a progressive disease so if you had a problem with it at one time, it's likely given enough time you will again (not to be a downer, just keep an eye so you can take steps if / when you need to again).

Never consider it gone. Think of it as being in remission. Age 5 years, add 20 lbs, watch a little more football, and suddenly you are in the hospital with DKA struggling to survive. Keep testing regularly but not necessarily frequently. If and when they start to rise again, you want to be in position to catch it.

Awesome job.

I know it can come back with a vengance. I found that out when I was waking up to go to the bathroom 5x at night. Type 2 runs in my family a lot. My grandmother died from it. My father is lucky to keep his BS under 200 and he is on Avandia.

All is well. I just woke up and checked my BS and it was a whopping 79. That is after no food in 11 hours and no Metformin in 14.
