Latest A1C

Well my doc called me with my latest A1C result. The last one I had done was late summer of 07 so I was overdue to have it done. It did go up from my last one (it was 5.5 and is now 6.2) but I am still very happy. Three weeks before I had this A1C done I managed to lose my Metformin. It was my last refill, so I called the doctors office. Since I had just found a new doc up here she wanted to see me before re-filling the 'script so I went three weeks with no medicine. I figure a 6.2 isn't that bad since I was without the Metformin for that long. I expect my next A1C in three months will be back down to the mid 5's since I am back on the medication. I am quite relieved as I was worried that it would come back above 7.0. She also told me that all the other lab work came back normal as well.

That's wonderful ... good job!!! Hey, how long did it take you to lose your 57 lbs? Did you do anything more than change your diet? I was just switched to a new med combo that was supposed to help me. I also have been being very good with my eating, practically starving but don't feel like I've lost very much. I'm determined not to weigh until my next appt in 4 more weeks.

That's the oddest thing I've heard in awhile. Why would he not refill a med that is obviously working?

Kim_in_TN : I was dx'd early Jan 2007 and that's when I started losing the weight, so it's been about 13 months. It's been an agonizingly slow process but I know that it's coming off in a healthy way. Besides severely limiting my carb intake the first few months the only other two things I did was measure/weigh out all my portion sizes and walked for 30-45 mins at least 5 days a week.

xMenace: Honestly I don't know any doctor who will fill/re-filll a medication for a new patient that they haven't yet seen in office. I wonder if it's a liability issue? I have had doctors re-fill a prescription without an office visit when I was a current patient but that is different as they have your medical history already on file.

Those are great numbers! I gotta get back to concentrating on my A1c. Been a rough few months so I am afraid to even get tested right now.

Great work!! I imagine you are feeling pretty darn good and you deserve it.
