Endo Appt ... what do I ask?

Hi, I have an appointment with an endocrinologist March 19. It has taken 3 months to get this appt. Over the past 3 months I have been in and out of diabetes. Sugar high, sugar low, on and off insulin because of highs and lows, eating good, eating bad, exercising all the while, gained 20 #'s, Lost 20 #'s, gained 15 is where I am at today. All this is confusing to me and I don't feel like I have been instructed very well although I paid $120.00 to see a dietician, I still feel uneducated. I have read a million things online and a catrillion books and mags on how to figure this out. I am still clueless. So, my question is, any good questions I need to ask my doc when I go in? I have a list already, I just wanna make sure I don't miss anything important. I will be posting a question about Lantus solostar if anyone takes it. Thanks-

Crystal, i'm glad you're going to see the endo. Maybe you'll get some good answers. You'll have to let us know how your visit goes.

I'd definitely ask for blood tests to determine which type diabetes you have.

I'd make sure he explains everything to your satisfaction...anything you don't understand or need to know needs to be answered before you leave that day..no question is too insignificant..its YOUR health you're dealing with. I'm glad you're taking notes with you, as I always forget something when I see the doctor.

Hope its a good visit!

I would ask for a C-peptide test to see how much insulin you are making. If you come in high normal on the c-peptide, you are making plenty of insulin, and you are probably type 2, which means insulin resistance.

By all means, use the western medicine to test and validate your efforts to keep your blood sugar low, but realize that there is a lot of information out there that the doctors do not know about because it did not come to them from a pharmaceutical company. Google is your best friend, and it is best to find a doctor that will allow you to try out the alternative methods suggested on the net. My doctor says I am cool to try anything as long as my A1C is below 7. If I come in above that, I have to take more insulin, which I do not want to do.

And remember, whatever meds and alternative substances you take, that it is always FOOD FIRST, then supplements. Learning to eat right is the solution, and let the meds and supplements finish up the job. It does not work the other way around, to take meds and supplements and eat the wrong way.

I am normalized, but not normal!
