According to this article, glipizide is one of the top ten medicines causing the need for visits to an emergency room.

Insulin is number 2.

I guess, in both cases it is due to hypoglycemia.

Please, new Type 2s, be aware of you blood glucose levels when taking glipizide. Test before driving, too! Test frequently when driving on long trips. Keep yourself and others safe.

Hmmm.....metformin is number 6, seems unlikely, maybe for those rare cases of ketoacidosis? I think that's the term, isn't it?

Diabetics on oral meds should be well aware of side effects, and, they should make family, friends and co-workers aware as well.

With hypoglycemia, the time it takes to reach an ER, and get a diagnosis, may be too long.

We must each shoulder a large share of our health care.

Well good grief, I didn't even see the metformin!

What I gather from this is that you are more likely to end up in the ER because of aspirin than you are from any of the oral diabetes medications.

I had many more, and much worse hypos from Glyptizide than I ever have had from insulin.
