Please correct me if I am wrong... If your A1C numbers are in the good range of around 6 and kept around that all the time, aren't your chances of not having diabetic complications such as eye problems, amputee instances, heart problems, etc. a lot better and often acutualy have no problems with these complications? If that is the case, why can't insurance grade you on these numbers to see if you qualify for their insurance instead of instantly deny you once they find out if you are on insulin. Any ideas on this? They don't even care if you are a class 1 or 2, only the fact you are on insulin. I tried to tell the ins. company that I am a diabetic 2. But once he heard that I was on insulin then it was a no deal. If I was just on pills, then it was a different matter. Frustated at the unfairness.

Probably because while control is must easier these days there's still the chance of you having a severe low and goig into the hospital costing the insurance thousands of dollars. So they aren't really basing it onthe complications, but what can happen instantly.

It is a valid question but the "for profit" institutions that grant us access to health care have little reason to be so discriminating.

I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this. It does seem very unfair. I would just keep looking for different insurance companies ... surely there will be a reputable one that will pick you up!
