| | Just checked my glucometer and my 14 day avg is 106 and 30 day avg is @ 112.
My today's readings are:
FBS - 86
2 HR PP (lunch) - 76
Getting there..
So... how do you calculate your A1c based on last 30 day avg?

From there, there can be surprises because you don't know what your bg is every minute of everyday. You can get a rough idea of bg/a1c equivalents using this calculator. |

A1C of 8 is a bg average of 205
7 is 170
6 is 135
5 is 100
Though it'd be difficult to get an exact A1C from your average... if your meter average is 106 you are likely in the 5-6 range. So long as you are testing frequently and your average included post meal numbers.
Dending on where your get your info... about 50% of your A1C is the last 30 days, 25% from the last 60 and 25% from the last 90-120 days.

| | | Current 30 day is 140. Not terribly accuate. If I get a higher reading, which I don't feel or think is right, I test again... Turns out the machine is most of the time right... Means I have a slightly shifted avg, on the high side. It also doesn't include post breakfast, lunch, post lunch... Those are on my meter at work.

| | | My numbers have been going down over the past month.
7 day 111
14 days 122
30 days 130
These numbers maybe off because I was using two meters one for home and one for work. I also test between meals to see how my BG reacts to travel( goes up by 10 points) Other meds and some foods that claim to be whole wheat but are not have caused some spikes as well.

| | | Mine has been about 130. A huge improvement over a couple of months ago when it was in the 190's. I am having an A1c done in early May, I can't wait to see my results (my last one was something like 8.7, not so great...)

| | | I'm running about 125 for the past 30 days, and 122 for the past 14. That's including PP. After reading lottadata's BG page, I looked back to my PP numbers. I was actually pretty surprised to find that, for 49 2 hr PP readings, 26 were below 120! That was really nice to see. Only 2 were above 140. Most of the rest were in the 128-135 range.
My FBS readings have been much better the past couple of days: 102, 108, 109--and I have been experiencing Dawn Phenomenon!
Also, the past few days, I've had several "regular" readings at well below 100.
My numbers have been looking much better the past several days, in fact, and I thank God for it!

My last A1c was 4.9.
Charts that say a 100 average gets you an A1c of 5 don't work in the real world.
My first A1c on a pump was 5.7 with a 99 average glucose.

Thanks | Sure!
Standard Deviation (often abbreviated SD) is a measure of how widely scattered or closely packed your readings are compared with your average.
Widely varying glucose, imposes it's own set of risks of complications, apart from what your average is.
Here is an example to illustrate:
You do 4 tests in a day, 2 of them are 250, 2 of them are 50.
The average is 150. Not so bad, but not great. But.... the 250 readings are too high, the 50 readings are too low.
So, looking at the average only, you might think you are doing ok, when in fact you are not.
A SD should never be more than half your average, but I don't consider that very good. When I started on my pump, my SD was about 25, now it is about half that. The lower the better!
Some meters will display SD. Some pumps will. Some software that you upload the data from meters and pumps will figure the SD for you. Some spreadsheets have that as a built in function.
I think it is more difficult for a T1 to get a good SD than a T2, because sometimes a T1 will do everything right, and still go wildly high or low. I am fortunate, in that if I do the right thing, 99% of the time I will get a good result. Predictability and repeatability.

| | | Llyod,
Thanks for that, makes sense.
So I used the stdev function in Excel where I log my meter and found:
14 Day 97.2 SD 18.25 (18.7%)
30 Day 97.2 SD 17.93 (18.5%)
So I guess that's ok, but I need to improve?

Insulin is a PITA, but it does give you the chance at great control.
If you have a particularly good week or bad week, it should show up in the SD for that time.
