Metformin - Info needed

Hi all

Just started Metformin and have to prescribed 1 x 500g per day for 1 week then increasing the dose by 1 each week until I reach 3 x day. Any tips ? I am overweight so does it help with weightloss, if so when will I start to see the benefits and also, more importantly, how long does it take to work on BGs?

Many thanks in advance as I know I'll learn more from the forum than reading the leaflet

Bevvie, it can take up to 3 weeks to see optimal results on the metformin, but you should notice some change in blood sugars in just a few days.

As for weight loss, metformin will help with insulin resistance, and insulin resistance is what causes that constant hunger some of us experience at times.

You'll lose the most weight if you watch your carbs and start doing some type of regular exercise along with taking your metformin.

Also, the more "greasy" foods you eat while on the metformin, the more likely you'll be to have the gastric side-effects.
