Artificial Sweetners

Does artifical sweetner affect your blood sugar numbers? I use splenda. I've tried sweet and low and equal and don't like either of those.
Thanks for your input!

I use a mix of 1/2 sweet-n-low and half equal to sweeten my tea (try it, its quite good that way) and Splenda for cooking. I've not had any problem with any of them.

Splenda if/when I use any sweetners. I have learned to adapt to most things without using sweetners (and salt for that matter too).

I also have learned to not use artificial sweeteners. On the whole they upset my stomach too much to be bothered. If I feel I just have to have something to be sweetened I put a touch of cinnamon.

We get used to anything and think we can only have it that way. I used to think I would never drink tea without sugar. Now if someone gives me tea with sugar I gag on it.

I use Splenda for most things.

Recently I started to experiment with Stevia. It is potent stuff. A wee bit packs a big punch!

I've always wondered about the safety of artificial sweeteners like Splenda and NutraSweet....especially when I read articles like this. I never know if these articles are about rare cases and contain facts from just a few cases, or if it's widespread.

Isn't it weird? I'm the same way... used to live by Mtn. Dew. Now just a sip will make me almost sick!

Same here. If I'm really thirsty and someone gives me a regular soda, I'll take a sip with the hopes that it isn't that bad, but it is. I'll toss it too....even though I'm still thirsty. The sugared sodas are too sweet and syrupy...yuck!

All the artificial sweeteners ending with "ol" like Malitol, Xylitol, COULD affect your bloodsugar since it's a sugar alcohol. While aspartame and those non "ol" ones shouldn't affect. I tend to NOT use artificial sweeteners when baking or cooking... I prefer to use small amounts of regular sugar instead, and dose my insulin accordingly. I do drink diet sodas though, and i use those artificial sweetener "pills" in my coffee, but sugar or honey in tea. The advantages of being T1 on insulin

I only use stevia for sweetening. I don't even drink diet soda. Stevia requires some getting used to since it has a bit of a licorish aftertaste, but I don't even notice it anymore.
