Liver Gamma Readings

Hi again

Decided to phone to get more detail on my blood tests 3 weeks ago when dxd and my liver test came back high gamma (what is this) don't know exactly what it was. What does that mean - I don't drink much so I'm not sure why this reading could be high.

Also my triglycerides were 3.9 which I believe is bad what's the normal range for these?

Everything else is recorded below.

Thanks

That's not a term I am familiar with. But welcome to the site. That A1c is way high. Hope it comes down for you.

I dont know what the gamma refers to but the triglycerides should be 2. or less.
Are you on a low fat as well as a low carb diet?

Do you use a blood glucose meter? I find they are the best in making me aware of my diet intake

Hiya, thanks both for your comments. Yes, I am on low fat as well as low carb (in fact low everything) and I've now lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks and my fasting reading was down to 8.2 from a wopping 14.1 on diagnosis. I can't slip up at all though otherwise it seems I lose a few days of BG progress - I am hoping I won't be quite as sensitive as my weight comes down and I am on my full dose of Metformin (I have been building up to 1'500mg a day and am on 1000mg currently) I start my last 500mg on Friday.

Last Saturday I had been so busy I didn't eat much during the day and when I eventually arrived home I was so hungry I had 2 slices of toast (white) and marmite and went to bed - the following morning my BGs were high (hadn't even had my quota of calories) won't be doing that again

Thanks again

Are you on Metformin alone? That is a high dose to take. I only take 1000 2 xs a day along with avandia 10 mgs and glipzide 5mgs. I have been on Metformin for 15 years now.

Keep walking and eating the recommended amt of food. If you do not eat enough at night your liver will actually release extra sugar during the night causing you to have a morning spike. It is also possible to go too low during the night and have a bad reaction on the low side as well.

Keep learning

Hi Janlaton

Thanks for info - I am on 1500 per day in all I know some are on more than me although I am on no other meds at present. My heart sank re the not eating enough in the evening causing a fasting spike - this is really confusing as I am obviously trying to keep cals down so am not likely to eat after 7.30 most days but if it could cause a problem what sort of snack would I eat?

Please explain more about this phenomenan.

Learning loads.

My doctor recomed cheese & 6 crackers if bedtime sugars are lower than 150 or peanut butter, possibly some nuts or small amt of fruit. I think the main thing is get some protein at night so you have something to get through the night on.

I do not get home from work til 7ish. I usually have 2 or 3 ozs of lean meat a salad or steamed green veg plus 1 carb serving and a cup of some type caffeine free tea. Usually this is enough. If I need more I go for nuts or 1 tablespoon of peanut butter. I also take my vitamins & calcium at night.

I say green veg at night because I use other colors for lunch. SOunds crazy but that is the way I be sure to get good variety!

Welcome to the forum! Just keep eating right and testing regularly! Soon you will begin to figure out what affects your BG readings! I currently take 2000 of Metformin along with 100 of Januvia. It's a combo pill called Janumet.
