Question Just started Humalog 50/50...can you help?

Well finally the endo agrees my numbers are too high on Janumet! 236 two hours after a very small bowl of Cheerios (no sugar) finally caught her attention. Funny a 171 first thing in the morning didn't seem to bother her as much as it did me.

She gave me two Humalog 50/50 pens to try. 10 units at dinner to start.

I noticed in the literature that you are supposed to throw away the pen 10 days after you start using it. Is this for real? At this starting dose, that's like throwing away 2/3 of the pen.

The pen is pretty convenient and the injection did not hurt a bit, but I can't afford to throw away that much medicine. Does anyone think the vials are more cost effective?

Thanks.

No need to throw away, use it until it's empty.

My advice: change doctors. First she thinks a fasting of 171 isn't too bad, then she puts you an an insulin mix. There is no point to an insulin mix- it just makes figuring things out and adjusting dosage harder.

When I was using 70/30 pens, I used it for a month and then tossed it out.

As far as cereal goes........try switching over to Cheerios Multi-Grain instead of regular Cheerios (in the yellow box). Also, Special K Protein Plus is low in carbs and doesn't seem to raise my blood sugar as much as some of the others.
