Can you have diabetes with normal blood glucose?

Hi folks, well I got the results back from the first tests of yesterday. The blood glucose was 99 which is at the top of normal. My cholesterol was high and the uric acid are high so I still have gout. Monocytes are high at 14. I can't believe that my liver function is normal because it was so high three months ago. My question is that my left eye went crazy when I started getting these sores which were treated with cephalexin and then they would go away. My glucose then was only 105 then. Is it possible to be diabetic and have these low numbers? Could a tolerance test show different results? Thanks

Brad

The glucose tolerance test will show how your body uses the glucose you take in and may show some symptons. I do not remember did you say if you had the A1c done yet? This gives a reading of the sugar in your blood for the last 3 months and is a good tool. Could be you are actually going too low.

Have you had a head to toe physical lately?

Still praying you will get answers quickly.

You need more numbers for any shot of us guessing. What is the breakdown of your cholesterol? A high triglyceride was my first tip off while the other numbers were good.
I do know people who are related to diabetics who test good repeatedly but they still exhibited symptoms like low blood sugar would if they don't eat
As far as your gout, I took the pills when i first got it and it did not work, doc said more pills but I only got sick. Found out about celery seed and cherries. Ate half a jar of merichino cherries 2 days in a row and the gout disappeared a couple of days after that. You also need to cut down on salt and eliminate diuretics for a couple of weeks.
Mine started with too much left over ham so now I know. As soon as I feel discomfort, I rehydrate and maybe some berires and I am good to go.

I haven't had the A1c done but I am going to get that test as well as the glucose tolerance test. My great grandmom had diabetes but no others that I know of in the family. The eye being blurred and then the diabetic type sores are my keys that something is wrong and just not dx yet. I had a physical and they are not what they used to be. They used to check you from head to toe and not anymore. When I go to the doc unless I say I feel hot they don't even check temperature. But they do want my money quickly..lol I hope I find my answers soon. I have had a weak feeling sometimes if I don't eat. I just thought that was normal.

My cholesterol is 208 Triglycerides are 118 HDL is 41 LDL 143. The uric acid is 9 and that is down from 10.2 on the last test. On the gout I have taken pills and then my liver got elevated enzymes for over a year from indomethacin..that was really scary. I thought I was going to die in the next year. I have tried cherries and they help a bit. The celery seeds seem to put my bp up but help the gout. That gout can be nasty. I had a pain like I had pulled a hamstring so I used crutches and went to the doc..it was gout the entire length of the leg..never had that ever in my life. Now it has been in an elbow for about a month. I will have to keep asking for more tests with my doctor because I just think there are clues that point to type2 with me. I love the merichino cherries and maybe those will help lower my uric acid.

Mine was only my big toe joint. Felt like it was broken. I can eat happily one or two merichino's the rest are strictly for my foot. non sweetened cherry or blueberry juice are good also.
Are you on a low glycemic diet? That is what I consider my salvation. If it were not for my diabetes and my change in lifestyle, I fear I would be as old as other people my age.

You are lucky to have only had it in the big toe. That is where I first had it. Then I have had it in the elbow, the side of the foot, and the entire side of the left leg...that was nasty. I have not been on a low glycemic diet yet but I have cut back. I think it would be very beneficial for me. I will have to try the blueberry juice too.

I haven't read or posted here in a while but I wanted to say that I hope you will find a doctor who will continue to search until s/he finds out what is going on! Don't give up! I know it's frustrating to have several different things going on and not knowing which is causing what!

I am glad I caught it too. Gout was called the rich man's disease as it was eating too much rich or salty foods, along with lack of sweat type exercise. Though doing a lot of hard physical labor in the summer heat was my last minor episode. I had drank over a gallon of water that day but it was not fast enough. A little rest and another gallon of water and I was better. I wasn't until a hour after the second gallon that I had to pee for the first time that day. I guess I was a few quarts low.

Untreated diabetics generally do not have normal sugars. You may be at very early stages, but I see nothing to worry about.

I have noticed that when I sweat a lot outside and I get dehydrated that I do get gout attacks. I have to really stay hydrated or the gout really comes. I guess I have had more attacks in the past year with a new girlfriend that ever in my life...lol Stress can also cause gout attacks. It was amazing to see that skinny people can also have gout. Then while researching diabetes I found that gout and diabetes supposedly go hand in hand. I always heard the "rich man's disease" but I also thought of it as the chubby chap's disease. lol

I was curious about that. I have been wondering about that. I think I will have to be tested for months and months before I get an answer. The left eye blurriness may not be related but I guess time will tell. Thanks
