| | | Is it ok to vent this morning? I hope that I am posting this to the right forum...the last weeks have just been difficult for me being newly diagnosed Type 2. I'm still in the testing phase of medication, I tried Janumet but am having problems. My doctor has been giving me samples and just wish something, somehow would start working without troublesome side effects. I started on one pill for three days and then attempted to increase to two. Besides the muscle twitches, I spend all of Monday running back and forth to the bathroom. Went back to the doctors and he was going to give me Avandia...please no..then said to try Januvia on it's own. I'm getting frustrated, muscle twitches continue but now..yesterday my vision is blurry. This is not good as I am the sole driver to get my granddaughter who lives with us to and from school. My vision was nothing near this when I first started. I was in the process of getting the eyes done for contacts, but my left eye kept changing and I'm in a holding pattern now till the numbers come down and stabilize.
Right now I'm like SO mad at everything, I had enough dealing with my asthma and the allergy shots..etc..this is just the darn icing on the cake. I'm frustrated with trying to figure out what to eat, I'm microscoping every label, exercising. Affording this along with the 7 other medications I take a day is going to be a hardship..my life has just changed so much in the last two weeks. Whenever a new medication was added to my already cocktail I've always been fearful of it affecting my breathing. I am frightened to be trying different medications and frightened about what side effects I'll have to live with
Then on Monday my daughter was admitted to the hospital with Crohn's Disease, thankfully she's ok and should be coming home today--but I keep asking when things will stop?
Life was never normal before and to ask for it to return back there is hopeless at this point. I just want to feel "good" or at least half good. I had been learning how to give myself allergy shots and thought doing the blood glucose tests wouldn't be so bad, but I just want to scream "Enough"...
Sorry, sorry to be venting..I didn't know where else to just cut loose this morning |

| | | Good morning Becks. I'm pretty new on this forum but not new to diabetes. I know that frustration of trying to find meds that work for you - I've been through a bunch recently and the side effects just weren't worth it. I'd go into each new medication hoping that "this would be the one" and each disappointment seemed worse than the last.
I know there are many people here who can give you much better advice than I can. Keep in mind that some meds need to come up to therapeutic levels for them to work properly and some side effects will lessen/go away. (I'm on metformin and it took me awhile to get used to what I call the "gluco-poops" and the timing of taking the meds with food so that I had the least gastrointestinal side effects.)
Glad to hear that your daughter is going to be okay. It sounds like you have a lot of stress on you right now - please know you're not alone. I'm glad you shared here.

| | | becks7, if you need to rant you go right ahead mate. Dont apologize and don't feel sorry for doing it, we all have done it, or will do it at some point.
Your eyes are probably used to the higher glucose and as you gain control and lower your numbers your eyes will have to readjust. It can take some time. Try a few different pairs of reading glasses and see if it helps in the interim. |

| | | All life's forks in the road leave us with uncertainty as we travel a new path. With effort, it will become the norm. Take it one mile at a time and you'll travel far without realizing it.
While yo may be the support person, it does not mean you don't deserve a little yourself.
As far as the bus thing, maybe the school will make a consideration due to the change in circumstance. If you and her mother cannot drive, she'll end up missing school. It may take a few persistent calls but you may get a solution

| | | Hi Becks, feel free to vent whenever you need to......we're here to help each other. I think we all have those days where we just want to "throw in the towel." You've had a lot going on in your life recently, and its understandable that you feel as you do.
I do want to encourage you that you will feel MUCH better physically as your blood sugars normalize. I didn't realize how bad I felt until I no longer felt that way.
Hopefully you'll find a medication that works for you and gives you the results you want. I'ad also encourage you to really watch your carbs and test your blood sugars regularly so you can get control over this and start feeling better. With your meds, it can take a few weeks for them to reach optimal results, so you may not see the results you want immediately. Also, keep in mind that stress can also cause higher blood sugars.
I'm glad to hear your daughter is doing okay as well. Hopefully things will start looking up for you soon! Post often, let us know how you're doing.

| | | I'll not fault you for venting. I can get pretty depressing, I guess it's the nature of the beast.
I was diagnosed a month ago with T2, but they changed it recently to T1. At any rate it wasn't until this week when my eye problems cleared up enough so that I could stare at my computer screen all day.
Good luck. |

| | Vent away Becks, that also helps bring down the #s as it releaves stress. So sorry to hear of your many problems, praying for a break for you.
Remember our bodies take time to adjust. And our eyes are a part of that procedure. How old is your granddaughter? Is there no neighbor, friend or relative who can help with transportation to school?
Just know we all went through med adjustments and it was not easy and making the life style changes are hard as well but hold the fort. You did not become diabetic over night and you will not stablizer overnight but it will come with time.

| | | Oh, I meant to add at first I couldn't see near or far, but very quickly I became farsighted so I could drive again. From reading about it, it seems this is what generally happens. |

| | Vent away! We really don't mind and in fact, we sympathize.
About the Metformin: the side effects usually diminish in about 2 weeks. I was on it about 6 weeks before I saw what I considered really good numbers. I just had to hang in there and wait it out.
Some days, it just seems so much easier to say, "O.K. Today, I'm not testing, not taking a single solitary pill, and I'm going to eat whatever I want. Today, I'm not diabetic, or anything else." It is a VERY tempting thought for me. I have to fight it, though.
We do care about how you're doing, so keep us in the know.

| | You all are SO kind and cannot thank you enough for all the supportive posts!!
Ariel is almost at the close of the school year and I was able to find a pair of my old reading/computer glasses that thankfully allows me to see and drive without a problem. I'll be very grateful when my vision comes back so that I can wear my contacts again. My new doctor is wonderful, the best part is he listens. My numbers were high to begin with and he's just added Amaryl and I'm to finish the Januvia. He wants to get the numbers stabilized and down and then go from there. It just was upsetting to try to see and everything is blurry, I was scared.
Thanks again! |

| | | becks,
Hang in there. It takes a little time and adjustment but you will do fine if you have the will and determination. It gets better and you will feel better too!
As far as what to eat, I've found that the low carb diet just about everyone here preaches works very well. For breakfast I'll usually have eggs, bacon, or turkey sausage.
Stir fry cauliflower, brocolli, grean beans, mushrooms, asparagus with either shrimp or chicken and a little soy sauce is also pretty tasty for me and doesn't spike me.
Fresh spinach salad with cucumber, mushrooms, grated cheese, and vinegar / olive oil dressing is also pretty tasty
For snacks, I eat a handful of almonds or a sugarfree jello.
They sell these low carb tortillas that I substitute for bread to make sandwiches or a breakfast burrito. Very tasty too.
Exercise is about the biggest thing I have witnessed that really helps bring the blood glucose numbers down. They say if exercise could be prescribed as a pill, it would be the first pill your doctor would prescribe!
Good luck to you.

| | Hang in, glad to hear you found some glasses to help out for the time being! The eyes do stabilize with time. Keep up the work monitoring and watching the food and exercise.
