Swollen Foot

I have a grossly swollen left foot and ankle and am taking pain meds for the pain. My rheumatologist told me to go back to my foot doctor as he had some success with a micro-vas machine on my other foot. (gout-like condition) but can't see him until Monday. Looong weekend of pain.

Has anyone had such a condition and what soothes it for you? Should I apply heat or cold? It has been this way for about three weeks but is becoming unbearable.

Thanks,
Nita
