Seeing an Endo tomorrow

Well its been So I am finally going to see an Endocrinologist tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect different from my regular primary care Doc. Its my first time seeing an Endo...

Should i take a print out of my BG log from my OneTouch Computer program?

Will he do a ton of blood-work even though i had it done about a month ago?

will he be able to answer food questions? what to eat, what not to eat?

How often do i go back and see him?

Hi Dan........good luck with your endo appointment today.

Yes, take your BG log with you so your endo can go over it with you. Put a call into the doctor who ordered the blood work last month and ask that they fax a copy over to the endo. This way you won't be having duplicate testing done. The endo should be able to answer your questions regarding food choices, but most likely, will set you up with a CDE or a nutritionist.

I'm a type 1 pumper and see my endo every 3 months.

Dan,

You got good advice from Karen. There are two other things you might want to consider, one is to sit down before the visit and make a list of things you want to ask, often people get out of the doctor's office and suddenly remember something the wanted to ask but forgot. The other option, which helped me with my first visit after being diagnosed, is to bring somebody with you, my wife went with me, as they may ask questions that don't occur to you and if you are living with somebody it can help them to hear about your treatment plan.

BTW, I never hesitate to ask a question, if the Doctor can't answer it, he/she will say, so I don't try work out what they will or won't know about - just ask instead.

I don't know if this is the norm, but my first office visit with my endo was short and fast paced. It wasn't until I saw the CDE that I got to sit down with someone and talk in depth about my diabetes.

The advice someone gave you earlier about bringing someone you live with to the visit is good. My wife had a ton of questions I would not have thought to ask because, although they pertained to my diabetes care they didn't fall under things I normally do like cook the meals.

All good advice so far.

I would add that you are evaluating the doc as he evaluates you. Many folks here have excellent relationships with their endos and some have had some really bad situations where docs ignored them, refused to listen, gave very condescending answers, made patients uncomfortable. Make sure you are happy with the doc.

So i went to the Endo for the first time...

he explained everything so clearly...

he up'd my meds from Janumet 50/500 x2 a day to Janumet 50/1000 x2 a day and want me to stop the 1MG of Amaryl after 1 week on the new dosage of Janumet.

he wants to see me in 3 months and get labs 1 week beofre my next appt.
