type 2 on insulin- could i use a pump?

or is pumps only for Type 1's? I just had a GAD test run this morning so I will find out my results on the 18th. But while I was at my endo's office I got this pamplet on pumps. I have never considered a pump before...but...if this test comes back with results deeming me NOT a type 2 and more of a type 1.5 or LADA or MODY- whatever those last two are- i have no idea. just curious...

I am Type 2 and on a pump for over 4 years now

What kind of insulin regime are you on? Pump doesn't make sense if you are just using a long acting insulin along with other D meds... but if you are on Multiple Daily Injections (MDI) with basal and bolus then the pump is another (and many would argue a better) way to manage that

I am on a long acting. Lantus 24 units now at bed time. i also take 2 byetta shots before 2 of my meals during the day. blood sugars are still running in the 200's. so i figured something else is gonna have to change. maybe i need to be on short acting. and bolus for my meals. i dont really know- i was just trying to figure it out before i go in on my appointment on the 18th.

What are your fasting numbers? You may need to increase the Lantus to help get that 200 down to a better number. You may need to go up to the 10 mcg Byetta pen. I was on the 5 and it didn't seem to help much, so my doctor put me on the 10 mcg pen and it really lowered my numbers.

I am an insulin dependent T2 on a pump.

The pump lowered my fasting readings by 100 points, on average.

It sounds like you could really use short acting insulin to cover meals. Are your readings always high, or just during certain times (after meals, fasting, before meals etc?).

I feel you should ask your doctor about short acting for meals and see how that goes. If that works and lowers your numbers, a pump could be the next step. Plenty of T2s use pumps.

T2's can use a pump aswell, as seen in these forums

So it doesn't really matter if you're a T1, T1.5, MODY or T2, any insulin dependant diabetic that needs both basal and bolus, can use a pump.

It really sounds like you need to look into getting a rapid acting insulin too, to cover the meals. But hopefully your tests will give some answers too. Considering your age and physical condition (that you mentioned in another thread) you could definitely be T1 or 1.5 (same ****, different names really... 1.5 is just slower onset and quite often misdiagnosed at first as T2)
