| | | When should I tell my doctor that I am concerned with going low Hello again all.
It's been a few weeks since I posted here and things are going much better for me. I have continued to lose weight, eat right and exercise. Some family members who had a bunch of exercise equipment collecting dust in their home decided to donate it to me. I have set all of it up in my basement at home and have put it to good use. Much to my suprise, I have found that exercising has become a great way for me to blow off steam and relax. I used to never exercise except during the summer when I would play softball in a local league. Now, I am exercising at lest 4-5 times per week for at least 30min per session. I plan to increase my exercise time to 45min soon but here is my problem.
My BG numbers have fallen dramatically over the past few months. My 14-day average is 88 and my 30-day average is 94 testing 4 times daily. My fasting numbers have generally been in the 80's with an occasional number in the 90. Evening numbers after dinner are usually in the 70's to low 80's.
My doctor told me she didn't want to see my numbers dropping into the 60's at any given time. Last night, two hours after eating and 30mins of exercise, I hit a 68. I didn't feel any signs of going low since I think my body has adjusted to lower numbers.
When should I contact my doctor about the low numbers? Should I do it if the numbers in the 60's become a trend?
I am currently taking 500mg Metformin 2x daily. Does it sound realistic to perhaps be cut back to only 500mg Metformin 1x daily?

| | | Aurelius,
I started hitting the same numbers about a month ago. I'm keeping my fasting numbers down and most afternoons my numbers are around 75-80. For about 1-2 weeks I did have several occasions of them dipping into the 60's. But that seems to gave stabilised. I had a scheduled visit to my doctor and he said two weeks ago and he advised I monitor it closely especially in the afternoon/evening, if being below 70 becomes a trend that then we would look at coming off 1 of the 500mg Met tablets. So my advice would be to monitor carefully over the next 1-2 weeks and if there is a definite trend of being in the 60's on a regular basis then talk to your Doctor. I'm reckon if we do end up being able to reduce to 1 500mg tablet daily, that we'll have to make sure to continue being diligent about eating well and exercising so as to keep things in control.
Just my thoughts ....

| | Yes. Well Done! Good For You!
Keep a close record of what you eat, what and how much you exercise, what your BS is and how you feel. Make an appointment for about 2 weeks as suggested above, to discuss with your Doctor BUT use your own judgment...if you are feeling unwell or notice more 60s or lower than you are comfortable with, then get to see him sooner.

| | | COW! What are you and Dave doing? Sounds great, whatever it is. My 30-day average is about 116. Not horrible, but not fabulous, either. My afternoon #s, usually the lowest of the day range from about 90-110. Again, not horrible, but nothing like you guys are seeing. Maybe the Bayetta will help. Sure hope so!
Anyway, many congrats on your great numbers and your fantastic progress!
