| | | If you use Byetta... I have questions for you...
#1- Have you noticed that it keeps coming out after you inject? I let it stay in my skin for atleast 10 seconds or more to make sure I get all of my dose. I was just wondering why it keeps coming out after I pull it out...
#2- My doc just moved me up to the 10 mcg. It's been really difficult to manage. I keep dropping into the 50's. Then I have to eat lots of sugar to pull it back up. Does this mean my dose is too high for me? If I take the shot and then wait a while, I can barely eat. But if I take the shot and then eat, I still go low. Any ideas on this?
* this morning I ate a 1/2 sausage egg and cheese mcmuffin and a small glass of pineapple juice and haven't had any effects so far.* |

I've not had this problem. When I first started using insulin, I did somewhat so left it in longer than the directions said. So, when I started Byetta, I did the same and left it in longer (maybe 20 seconds). #2- My doc just moved me up to the 10 mcg. It's been really difficult to manage. I keep dropping into the 50's. It may be too high. Did you start out using the 5mcg pen? That's what I started with and am still using. One thing I found the first time I had lows (before byetta and after -- been on insulin over a year) is that I'd correct, but not wait long enough to see if I came back up. If it were me, I'd correct only 15 carbs max and test again in 20mins to see if I'm rebounding. I will be only around 70 or so an hour after eating but just hold it and then I'm okay (100 or so) 2 hours after eating. For me, it was a mistake to eat a lot of carbs to get the number up as by the time I saw it coming up, it would keep on and keep on and I'd be way too high.
Good luck! |

| | | My son, type 2, is on Byetta and that is a complaint of his. He injects and it comes back out to an extent. He's due to see an endo this month thank goodness. He is such a great guy but worries me that he doesn't have his bs under control after 8 years DX'd. I think he's still in denial and feels he can still eat whatever he wants. |

Like the dose keeps coming out, like it didn't inject all the way or something. I am gonna try what Jill-O said and just leave it in for 20 seconds. |

| | | Crystal, are you taking the needle off the pen after your inject, or just capping it with the needle on? I had a pen that leaked if I left the needle screwed in, so now after I inject, I remove the needle and put it back in the plastic "hood" and keep it in my monitor case til next injection time.

| | | That's what I do, Linda. I've noticed just a drop or two of the liquid on the needle. The Byetta website says that's normal, and the pen has enough medication in it to compensate for that.
I'm not on insulin or a sulfonyurea so I've never gone low on Byetta. Sounds like Jill has a handle on that end of it, though, so I'd try her advice.
Otherwise, I've been VERY happy with my results.
