Hearing Sensitivity

It's been eons since I've posted here but thought this might create some interesting responses.

I'm type 2 and have been taking Metformin. I started on 2000 mg/day but was able to decrease that to 1000 mg/day but now am back up to 2000 mg/day.

I started having episodes of sound sensitivity. It took me a week to diagnose what was happening to me. With some sounds, not all of them, and quite frequently voice sounds or lower sounds, my brain would react as if the sound was startling or louder than it should have been.

I looked this up on line and found it to be something somewhat frequent in Diabetics taking meds which limit the amount of carbs the body is digesting.

Something seemingly lacking in those people was Magnesium.

Just to see if there was some truth to the story, I started taking a Magnesium supplement.

Within 10 days or so, I noticed a definite improvement and now more than a month later. The symptoms are mostly gone.

I'm taking 150 mg more magnesium than what is included with my Calcium supplement so a total intake then now of 300 mg/day.

Just in case anyone has the same symptoms and wonders what to do about it.

I consulted my Diabetic Nurse, Dietician, and Doctor. They had no real comment either against or for my unusual new problem and my treatment.

The only concern from them was the added mineral I was ingesting and what that might cause down the road.

I'll keep you posted to anything new.

Comments, suggestions, simular stories to share?

Thank you for posting this! I always find it fascinating how people's bodies react to being low in vitamins / minerals.

Good for you for doing the research. Most docs would never make the connection.

I noticed when I did a certain type of micro treatment (to treat D) my sense of smell went hyper. I could smell someone smoking a cigarette outside and about 200 ft away as if they were blowing the smoke in my face. I don't do that treatment right now but I can still smell stress, fear and even sugar.
Garbage smells seem really obnoxious to me and not even noticable to others (believe me I've asked).

People just think I'm an alien (don't know what will happen when they find out it's true )

Glad I'm not the only alien with extra sensory perception (even though it can be annoying) !!!!!

glad you found help for it. Hope we hear from others too.

Thanks for your reply Ellie,

I'm wondering what micro treatment you used for "(D)" that caused super smelling ability?

Also I'm wondering if your still bothered by the smells?

I know what my sound sensitivity did to me both at work and at home, I can't imagine what smelling ability would do! Must have been aweful!

I don't know the exact name of the micro current machine. Its the one that uses plastic glove fitted with electrodes and moist cloth between glove and your skin. It doesn't stimulate muscle tissue (for the frequencies I was doing). Mine was set to the diabetes frequency when this started to happen. My Doc said it was normal. My sensitivity did fade a bit but not completely. On the good side - it makes me do my dishes every night cause if I don't the smell of the dirty dishes wakes me up! (Flowers also smell much more fragrant) but it also means I take a lot of showers, cause I am that much more sensitive to my own smell. Candle shops and meat markets are torture.

If I really concentrate I can dial down the smell (using a hypnosis technique), and I try to do that for the garbage smells. However, looked at in a provincial light - it can be quite useful.....I know who's coming before they get there, I know how they are feeling and I know what they ate.

Hm... I've never heard of this treatment.

The only thing simular I've experienced is a Tens (sp?) Unit that was used on my back when I had spasmatic muscles after an injury. It was definitely used to stimulate the muscles and was great!

I find any treatment for diabetes to be interesting and of course any resulting effects.

Thanks for replying again

A similar machine to the one I've used is called a 'reif' machine.
Not sure if my spelling is correct. Naturopaths use this machine as another way of getting at what ails ya. It doesn't seem to help my D any but it is very effective to manage chronic pain and things like hepatitis and other viral things.

What I found that helps most (up to now) are my IV treatments. I get mega doses of vitamins, minerals and glutithione (sp). It helps my immune system stay healthy.

If you want more info on the reif I can get some next week when I see my doc, would be happy to get some for you.

Hi Ellie,

I've looked Rife Machine and it seems to be simular to the ion cleansing you can get done at my salon and spa.

I've no idea how that works really because the literature I was given told me that it wasn't recommended for Diabetics or people with heart conditions etc.

I know a friend of mine has had it done and nothing bad happened to her, she even claimed she felt better because of it.

I guess if it feels good then it won't hurt either kinda.

I'm still a little wary of the claim that it removes toxins etc from your body.

From what I read, it doesn't remove toxins but merely is supposed to change the state of a cell to normalcy. How it does that, of course I don't know.

For now I'll stick to what I'm doing as any loss of more things from my body and I'm afraid what'll go next.
