Diabetes/Depression combination

Hi Friends,

I was curious how many of you were diagnosed with depression or any anxiety disorder which could have been linked to high sugar. Or is the relation the other way around? depression leads to diabetes in some people.

I was diagnosed with OCD around the time my sugars shot through the roof.

Regards
Mr D.

Of course one person could have pretty much any combination of ailments, so no doubt there are diabetics who also have anxiety disorder and/or depression.

Does the OCD make handling your diabetes more effective, less effective, or does it have no effect? I have a friend who has OCD, and actually because of it she does many things with remarkable regularity and and precision. But since part of her OCD is to repeat important actions, I'd be afraid she could take her meds multiple times, or exercise again and again in case the first time was somehow not quite right, draw up insulin a dozen times trying to be precise beyond human ability, or maybe throw away meds feeling uncertain whether they may have been exposed to high temps long enough to change them.

I've also had long time bouts of hyper anxiety and depression, however, I was diagnosed with depression about 4 years before Diabetes. The anxiety is still a problem.

Wellll, we know stress causes BG levels to rise, so I imagine having an anxiety disorder doesn't help someone who is already standing on the "D" cliff.

About a year after I was diagnosed as type 2, I started feeling weird. I had 2 emotions, severe anger, or crying. Anything would set me off. The dr said it was related to my D, and put me on mild antidepressives. I've been on them ever since, and feel great.
I do wonder if now, that I've gotten used to D and my numbers have been pretty good, if I could eventually go off them.

I wasn't diagnosed, but I was a basket case, to an extent, before diagnosis of type 2. After dx'd, I was worse with anxiety and depression until I went through the diabetes education classes. I'm doing better now, but stress still does a number on my numbers. Seems like visiting family sends them through the roof. Hmmm... must remember this in the future.
