Exclamation Just had a LOW ... still shaky

Wow, all the sudden I just got so shaky just all at once. I've had a few "lows" before but this one hit fast and hard. I tested and was 69. I think that is the lowest reading I've ever had. I grabbed a snack cake and a couple of crackers. Still shaking. I'm not sure what caused this. I had lunch out with a friend and ate at Jason's deli. I didn't exactly eat a "diabetic friendly" meal but I didn't test afterwards to see how "high" I might have gotten. I did take my Janumet with my meal though so it shouldn't have been too terribly high. Hmmm... any ideas?

That's not terribly low, though I understand how disturbing that shaky feeling can be. You should keep a few pieces of hard non-sugar free candy in your purse for times like this...a piece would have made you feel better in no time. I keep the breath mints I get in restaurants just for times like these.

I'm betting you perhaps went a little high after lunch, which made it seem/feel even lower when your liver kicked in and did its job.

Its interesting how we T2s feel low at higher #s than the T1s do...and i'm wondering why that is...

LOW-sugar candy? Shouldn't I have the sugar during a low?

EDIT: I reread you said non sugar-free.... OK! As far as feeling "low" it used to be when I neared 100 then most recently the 80's or 70's so 69 really startled me!

Lightbulb

I just did some online searching and have so far found 2 sites that say 70 is the threshold of what is considered a "low" so that would explain why my 69 hit me so hard.

Hope you are starting to feel better, I sure know that feeling. I used to feel lows at 70, lately, I do not feel them until about 60. I do not carry candy with me as I am weak and would eat it. I tried carrying raisins...they spill out in my bag and smell and get yucky. I also did jelly beans for awhile....I just like them too much. Husband suggested licorage because I hate it, but it is too hard to eat when I feel bad anyway. So I just carry the glucose tablets and chew one at a time until I feel better, then try to eat someting that will last. The shakiness seems to last even after I get my numbers up, so I understand how you are feeling.

Maybe you can get some glucose tablets like Penny mentioned, and keep some in a small zip-lock bag in your purse or pocket. I always use small zip-lock bags to keep things from messing up my car or lunchbox.

you can experience very strong hyp symptoms from a sudden drop in levels, sometimes without actually being below the threshold, candy, i take something faster acting than that like an energy drink or glucose gel that needs very little digesting. unfortunately i find glucose tablets probably the most addictive thing you can eat

Kim, I was 79 this afternoon when I left work (check BS in my car) and I was already felling uncomfortable. Not shaky but, I felt like a littlebit dizzy. I've been lower than this but, never felt this way before

69 is just a tiny bit low from my perspective. 70 or below is where I start to correct but 69 I don't even "feel" 40... I feel...

I honestly believe it has nothing to do with if you are Type 1 or Type 2 - it all comes down to what your body is use to.
I am still a newish Type 1 and I can feel the shakes hit me in 4.2 and lower.
As I stated in another post - back when I was DX'd my BGs were running so high for so long before DX that my body would start shaking when I started to take insulin and get in the low 5s. Only cause the body will adapt to what it feel / believes is the norm.

Its good that you feel the shakes in the 69 or 3.8s. I was told that the Type 1s who don't feel the shakes till the low 1s or 18+ run with tight control and have allowed their body to drop low too many times. Not sure if that is true or not.

I think this is true. Most type 2's have a working counterregulatory response, kicking in strongly when they approach lows, triggering their livers to dumping blood sugar. If you have not spent much time with blood sugars below 80 mg/dL, they will "feel" low. As a type 2, the lowest I've recorded is 59 mg/dL, and I felt "low". I've recorded many readings in the 60-70 range and I will start to feel uncomfortable, but often I have the same feelings when I drop after meals, only to find I am actually still at 100 mg/dL. As you get more accustomed to lower values, you will stop feeling unwell. As a type 2, you should be pleased to get down to this point. I say good work!

KIM!!! Hope that you're OK now, My dad had a low and he was in 3.8 / 70 and I would conceder that a low and take something to raise the BG and he was shaking and scared so I helped him with a Glucodin Tabs and he still feels weird. I am now wondering if T2's have a low, They have it for longer than T1's do and T1's do get a serious low's at 0.8 / 14.4.
I guess that for me I would have a idea what went wrong if I get a low but for T2 that's a mystery for me.

Perhaps that T2's are diagnosed later in life than most T1's and more sensitive to low's, Like I can remember my 1'st low!! and tested at that time + in the clinic test tube so not so low but I felt odd like I was dreaming while wide awake. Strange???

Kim, I hope you're feeling better. I hate the lows. Just reminds me that I have a disease.

I feel something like extreme hunger in my stomach below 90 mg/dl. The shakes kick in about 70 mg/dl or below. My lowest ever was 59 mg/dl. The grape glucose tabs from Walgreens are good. I take two and feel better in just a few minutes. It seems like I only have lows when I am running around shopping and errands. The Walgreens tabs come in a little tube and you can reflll the little tube with a bigger bottle they have. I like the grape flavor.

OK, WHAT IS GOING ON? I started feel unwell just before dinner. I went ahead and tried to eat. The pork chop tasted pretty good but I couldn't force myself to eat much of anything else. I continued to feel bad and a bit queasy so I stopped and took some rolaids. Now, only ONE HOUR post meal, I am at 85. What's happening all of the sudden?

Sorry to here you are not well. You might benefit from learning some carb counting. When you don't have carbohydrates with your meal your blood glucose level will drop. As you only had a steak with your meal, this doesn't have any carbohydrate in it. I usually have 2 units of carbs with each meal. If I don't have carbs regularly, my blood glucose level goes all over the place.
