| | | Why would BG go up from one hr pp to 2 hrs pp Ok, my BGs have been very weird the past few days. I had a low of 69 yesterday. Tonight I felt weird and couldn't eat much dinner. One hour pp I was 85, then expecting it to be even lower at 2 hours pp, I was 105. Why would it go higher when I didn't eat much instead of going lower?
I've been Type2 for nearly 5 years now and I'm more confused than ever. *sigh*

| | What did you eat Kim? For example: foods higher in fat and/or protein can take longer to be digested.

Basically, I have really screwed up my diet the past couple of months. Skipping / missing meals, eating candy bars and not exercising. Then I "wonder" why I feel bad and have weird BG readings!? You would think that after being diagnosed for nearly 5 years, that I would realize what is "wrong". I guess it's just that I had been "good" for so long that I didn't remember how AWFUL being "bad" could make me feel!
So, let this be a lesson to myself and anyone else who has "forgotten" what poor control can feel like!

| | | For the scientific members: do type 2's like Kim need to eat some carbs to trigger an insulin response?
Also consider meter variances. 85 & 105 are plausibly the same value. I might have checked again. |

| | | Not eating can kick in you BG to rise so that is one of the reason for eating several times a day.
The days where I have been the busiest and eaten the least have been my highest days

| | | Beans are starchy. The fat in your pork chops may have delayed their effect on your blood sugar.

| | approx 15gm carb/100 grams but low GI so any effect would be delayed even without the pork chop.
But, there is only a 20mg/dl rise, much of which could be accounted for by the meter. ( yesterday I had the same variation between fingers) |

i often get home at the end of one of these long days to find i am 65-75 mg/dl (3.6-4.2 mmol/l).

| | | Being physically active after a meal may or may not have an affect on your digestion, but it can a have definite affect on bg levels. The only problem I found is it's impossible to know if they will be high or low. With the same meal from one day to the next I may see a 70 point spread with different or the same activity level. |

| | | I've found that moderate activity, like a 20-minute walk, can lower my BG up to 30 points. Walking has never raised my BG. I don't know about other activity, though.
When I feel tempted to go off the rails for a while, I'm coming back to this thread for Kim's comment: "I didn't remember how AWFUL being "bad" could make me feel!" Hopefully, that will be a reminder to me to behave myself. LOL.

Oh, it's the truth for sure! It's amazing what a difference it makes when you go back to your bad ways!!! It reminded me quickly that I have a real disease, something that isn't going away.

| | Hey Kim,
My numbers sometimes don't hit their highest until 3 hours after a meal. I have quite an issue with "delayed stomach emptying". Proteins also can raise my BG if I don't eat a little carb with my meal. Essentially, I eat a little bit of carbs at each meal - without them, my liver thinks I'm starving my body and will dump glucose into my system. My BG tests higher without a little carbohydrate then with some.
Good luck - really just remember, our bodies don't react the same way, every day with the big D. Trial and error, with lots of patience is needed!

| | | Couldn't it be her liver, releasing energy (glucose) in response to her low BG? Just a thought.
