| | | Sorry you are not feeling well. I didn't vomit but I felt ill from the very first day I was on Metformin and I still felt ill two months later when my doctor finally took me off it. It did seem to help somewhat with my very high morning numbers but it just wasn't worth it. |

| | Yes... I also was not able to stomach ( ) Metformin but I know there are folks here on DF who have had success... I believe by strategies to do with timing the dose(s) around food, splitting the dose etc... I'm sure they will chime in soon and I hope you are feeling better

| | | You might want to see if your doctor will switch you to the metformin ER (extended release). It peaks more slowly and some have found that it helps with the nausea. Also, are you taking it with food? You don't want to take it on an empty stomach.
When I took metformin, I noticed a correlation between "greasy foods" and nausea.
Hope you start feeling better soon!

Hope you start feeling better soon! | PrincessLinda has some good suggestions. I found ER caused less distress. You may also find splitting your dose to 2 or three times a day helps. Many people find that they need to ramp up their dose over weeks to be able to handle it. In my case, I could handle fat fine, but carbs caused problems. Metformin blunts the absorption of carbs, in my case that meant more carbs available to ferment producing sounds effects, bloating and a particularly disturbing smell. They don't call it metfartin for nothing.
Seriously tho, you may find particular foods cause problems. If you can adjust to metformin you should really benefit, it is one of the safest and most effective oral meds for type 2s out there.

| | | I take Janumet; my doctor said I should take the pill along with my first bite of food -- it doesn't control the BG spike if you take it any later. Unfortunately, it makes me mildly nauseated for a while. I feel fortunately that it doesn't cause anything worse. |

| | I take Metformin 2x a day. In the morning it's 500mg and with dinner it's 100mg. I haven't experienced the stomach upset, but the loose stool shows up every 4 days or so. I actually depend on it now.
I hope you get to feeling better soon. |

| | | I used to take Metformin many years ago without too many problems. It did suppress my appetite and I lost a little weight while on it. Eventually it didn't work for me any more, and I went on to insulin.
I have read in other forums that some people recommend eating yoghurt with live cultures in it to alleviate the symptoms of nausea and bowel problems. You could try it. |

| | I had horrendous problems with metformin and metformin ER, it caused stomach pains, irratractable vomiting, headaches and insomnia.
I've tried it 3/4 times with the same results.
Because of other illnesses it was better and easier for me to go straight to insulins and to stay on them.
And after 2yrs I roughly have good control with hba1c of 5.5%.
metformin can cause serious issues for some people, so if it persists see your Dr and get taken of it and onto something else, there are many other oral meds you could try
