Once a Week Byetta Study

All,

I've gone ahead and signed up and wanted to let everyone know that this study and others are out there as the IDC I when too said they are having a hard time finding people to sign up for the study.

Exenatide Once Weekly Byetta

Efficacy of Exenatide Once Weekly and Once-Daily Insulin Glargine in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Treated With Metformin Alone or in Combination With Sulfonylurea (DURATION - 3) - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov

Right now they are only accepting people with A1c greater then 7.0 and only taking Metformin.

I'm hoping I get into this as they are paying for all the Med's and will do so until(~2years) the FDA approvals go through(Of Course they don't promises that).

My second visit is next week if my A1c is > 7.0..

Smitie, are you currently taking Byetta in the twice daily dose?
If so, did you have any side effects?

I'm on the 5 mcg dose, and my doc took me off the metformin as with both meds I was hitting 60's and 70's quite often.

I would be interested in seeing how the side effects are on a once-weekly dose, specifically would they be increased.

Thanks for sharing the information. Byetta has worked very well for me, though I had a hard time convincing my doctor to let me try it as my A1Cs were good. I wanted to be on it as i'd read Mendosa's article as to how it can help slow progression of T2.

Not currently, but If I don't get accepted into the study I'm planning on asking my Dr too let me try it out. From what I've heard/read the side effects are less but I'll let you know if I get placed onto it.

Good luck in getting into the study, Smitie! The once-a-week thing sounds GREAT! I applaud your courage and perseverance in being willing to do this.

Well I didn't get accepted into the study as my A1C was too low which was 6.7.

Hopefully we all can be on this drug in two years after its FDA approved.
