Question about testing.

Hi all! I'm having a bit of a problem here with my testing. I'm now working a 10 hour day and that means that I test before I eat breakfast (around 4:45am), then I can't test until I get home from work....which is around 6:15pm. I test when I get home, take a shower, make dinner which is usually the same thing every day.....a one pound bag of tossed salad, mixed with 6 ounces of broccoli and mixed with a 12 ounce can of chicken. I use either a fat free, low-cal Italian dressing or a low fat Italian dressing.

My main problem is that eating a big bowl of this salad takes a while. I start eating it at a little after 7pm. By the time I'm finished, it's almost 8:30pm. I usually go to bed about 9pm, so is there any point in testing before I go to bed? I figure that testing at 9pm would mean that I still haven't digested most of my food yet. Yes, testing at 9pm is two hours after I started eating, but I've eaten a lot since 7 pm, so I don't see where testing would show me anything.

I'm gonna try it in a few minutes (at 9pm), but I doubt that I'll get an accurate reading. Oh, I can't really test at work since I'm working in construction and there is no running water on the job site. I'd never purposely draw blood when my hands are filthy, so testing isn't an option.

Its no secret that testing is the key to great control.
If I were you - I would work around your situation about testing at work. You have breaks take them and test. You talk about no running water? Bring your own, Bring alcahol wipes and damp face cloth, clean an area and test.

to each is own, but if you find that your BGs may be off at work - you need to test to get them under control/ to adjust.

Thats what I would do at least.

Many meters will work on a forearm or elsewhere that may be much cleaner in general. More testing will help a lot so if there's any way to get some done on site, you will benefit a lot.

I typically test twice a day- before breakfast and before dinner - i.e. before my meds. I sometimes test in between when I think there is reason to do so. Any reason you can't take your meter to work? Actuall, I keep one at home and carry one around with me to check when I'm "feeling strange".
